How could any reasonable policymaker believe it is fair to place an arbitrary expiration date on benefits that we EARNED and paid for? It is disgusting that I have lost thousands of dollars because of this deeply unjust policy. This policy penalizes many good people simply for having busy lives and urgent responsibilities that prevent them from going to school immediately after our honorable discharge. Fix this disgusting policy now!

Veterans have earned the right to use these benefits when they have time to use them. If not, refund us the money we paid in.

Many of us paid into a program which we were never able to use because those first 10 years were not the best time to be going to school. In my case, I had small children. I reentered the workforce when my husband became disabled & have supported my family ever since, but I've never been able to use any of the GI bill.

No G.I. Bill should expire for any Veteran whose discharge was Honorable. This should be made unexpireable to all Honorably Discharged Veterans. This would allow the Veteran to pay for further education at any time the Veteran chooses, not when it conveinces the Government.

Life can be difficult after the military, and to put a time limit on school money we worked and served for is'nt fair and makes no sense. One heck of a way to thank us for our service.

Life happens and a lot of the time furthering our education is not feasible. 10 years is unfortunately not long enough. A no expiration date on these benefits would open up the world to us veterans who have a tough time finding ourselves after service.

To whom it may concern? I too served honorably in the United States Navy. When I got out, I had no time for college. Now I have the time and opportunity to gain a higher education and don't have the benefits to use that I earned and paid for. Not only do I think that they should be readily available to veterans who have served this country, I also feel as though there should be no expiration date on any of the benefits that you earn as a veteran whether you are pre-or post-9/11, especially when it comes to education. In this day and age, and with the advances in technology continuously coming down range, careers and opportunities are changing at a higher rate than ever before and therefore requiring continued education to maintain that career. I also feel that allowing more veterans to go back to school instead of taking a lesser paying job or having to go on unemployment would help to stimulate a suffering economy. Please either write the bill so that we are able to transfer the G.I. Bill benefits to our children or so that we may use them beyond the expiration date. I also believe that there could be a civil action case in this circumstance that would yield interest, based on inflation rates and tuition hikes, towards those who did not use the G.I. Bill within the allotted time or prior to expiration. My hope is that this is changed sooner than later. -Dave Bray

I paid in $1200 when I enlisted in 1990 and I was told that I had to start school within that 10 year time frame, not use the GI Bill within 10 years of separation. Needless to say I was completely disappointed and angry that the benefits I paid for expired. Just like most, I had to provide financially until the time I was able to attend school. I should at least get a refund since now I am paying for college out of my own pocket. Come on Congress, its no skin off your teeth to extend these benefits we've not only paid for, promised and earned. If you can pay for millions and millions for Syrian refugees, you can allocate money to those who really deserve it!

As a young father leaving the marine corps, I had to immediately go to work and support my family after my discharge. Now that my children are grown up and out of the house and I would like to go back and get my education, only to find out it's not possible.

I just was never in a position to use the benefits because I was a young father with young children. Now that my children are in High School, I am in a better position to go back to school. However, the benefits are gone. I remember when I first joined the Air Force and they took out the $100 per month. I was an incredible amount of money at the time.

It took several years to settle some place after separating. When the day came at last that I could finally start a degree program, the company I worked for went belly up, and I had to move again. A few more years go by before I'm settling tled again, and they are gone, with only 1 two class semester used. I can't go out of pocket, I have been unemployed for almost a year. Back when I was in, I paid a big chunk of my monthly pay for a whole year, for those benies. Why can't I decide when to use them? Life happens! Civilian life does not always work on government timelines.
