My ex-wife makes $28k vs my $40k, however, my son is 5 and in school and not in daycare. I also pay for his health insurance and all his medical bills, school clothes, etc. I make $1000 every two weeks after my deductions (only 3% in retirement) and I have to pay $600 a month and still pay for everything else. It is completely unfair and I am struggling to get by

I'm in the military stationed in California. My child is One I was ordered to pay $833.00 a month plus half of daycare. I don't understand how California is allowed to calculate non taxable money as income. Child support laws are so backwards.

It is ridiculous how unfair the system is. I was unemployed for 6 months due a company reorganization that eliminated my position. I paid my full child support every single month (1250 a month for one healthy child) until I got to the last 2 months and I carried the cost of his health insurance. Then I paid half or less during those two months. I had never missed a payment for the last 4 years. Within two weeks of getting a job, a garnishment order was sent to my employer for 1550 a month! To top that, they tried to garnish 1800 a month from unemployment which it's not even possible to get that much unemployment in this state. Meanwhile the mother claims she needs that much to take care of our son while she goes off to do whatever she wants without a job. She bought a house last year with a her new boyfriend, the only thing she needed was to put down the income from child support and she was put on a mortgage! Meanwhile I work hard, I get paid well but I'm on the brink of losing my home because the ridiculous child support amount is calculated on gross earnings instead of net, money I don't even get to see because it goes to taxes. It's absurd.

Thank you! This is exactly what I have been looking for. The child support law towards fathers is outrageous and unfair. Its like we're being punished for having a child. On top of that they deduct a amount that you're not able to live with, to not even be able to afford to support yourself to be able to support your child. Then punish you by suspending your license or locking you up if you cant make your payments? And still expect you to work and be able to support your child? Outrageous and unfair!

I would ask that the form of this petition be overlooked, and that the petitioners desperation be considered. The devastating impact that the current child support system levies against men is deplorable. The vast majority of child support paying fathers are hard working, dedicated parents, who are financially penalized for their diligence. Dead beat moms and dads are the only ones not being impacted by the unfair and impractical handling of these issues. Men with more than 2 children are essentially forced into poverty due to the percentage based support calculation methods. The more financially successful a man is the worse this becomes. Laws such as this turn divorce into a decades long sentence of financial ruin, and make it almost impossible to provide any sense of financial security for the children impacted by irresponsible recipients who often remain unemployed in order to leverage as much welfare programs as possible. A very common practice which unjustly burdens society as a whole.

I have "crooked government" stories posted on my face book. In 1980 I tried to do the right thing and sign the papers, take the girl to the child support hearing and was treated worse than an animal. They not only told me if I went near the child or his mother I would be arrested they changed the court ordered 8 dollars a week to 35 using a bogus court order. I was working at Pizza Palace making 2 dollars a hour. I have been fighting this all my life in Dec. 2011 Wayne County Friend of Court used the bogus court order to sue me for back child support, 500 dollars a month for the rest of my life and I cannot get a hearing. Over 10,000 dollars in lawyers, they ripped me off and then laughed at me. The Michigan Bar says I have no case I have a clean criminal background and DL and not entitled to constitutional rights. If I were a black man and took this story to the NAACP I would own the state of Michigan.

The laws in NYC are crazy! 17% then 25% when u have two children. My husband and I have a child but he also has another hold from another women bbefore I came in the picture. She took him to court after I birthed my son and demand an increase. She now gets 185 before she received 70 a week. To me I think that's way to high of a child support payment when the woman makes more or an equal amount as my husband . Someone needs to take action on these women abusing men like this . We are in the process of getting this reduced, and I hope the judge is on our side and will decrease this ridiculous amount.

Dear Sir, I am experiencing an impropriety with Alameda DCCS and I need help. No one in that department can tell me when or how to expect the collection process will end. In fact, the judge in my last hearing says that I can be assured that this collection process goes on forever. Currently, the department takes one tenth of my net pay monthly. Apparently, this does not satisfy compliance as they also promised me that all tax refunds, unemployment, disability claims, social security payment will be intercepted including any state lottery winnings. Further, I cannot open a traditional bank account or apply for traveling passport because a balance due will always be. I understand that even if the balance is somehow all paid in full, I would be under obligation to the collection process until my death and beyond my death to any estate I may manage to accrue. I know this is an impropriety because my crime was marring and having two children over a twenty year span of time beginning in 1975 to 1995. Divorce final in 1995. Child support started in 1998 and continues to-date. There is not a lawyer in the state of California that will consider my case. Any suggestion or referral to a source for relief would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jeff Washington

This system makes it impossible for a man to live a normal life.I pay child support for three kids.I have to claim 1 or two deductions for taxes. if I am to make enough to pay my child support and be able to live I have to. I don't have enough money after child support to pay rent and my bills.on top of that people who pay child support can't even claim the money they spent on their child on taxes.how can this be possible? But every year the mother of my kids getting 3 to four thousand back on income tax.this is wrong I contribute just as much financially as she did.but she is allowed to claim deductions and live life to the fullest while every payday I'm constantly stressed out about how I am going to pay my rent.this is ridiculous! The constitution states my rights of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Well, were is my happiness? I have worked myself almost to death trying to pay for my kids.women are not too concerned about what would benefit our children instead its about the money. Men paying child support have no right, while women sit back and enjoy a great quality of life due to the income she has coming in and half of my paycheck. On top of that I work so many hours to try and make up the difference , that I can't spend half the the time I want to with my kids.this does two things it opens the door for the mother to say if he cared about his kids he would come see them.then in my case my children are told that I don't care about them and that I am worthless. This damages the relationship with my kids.when I do get a chance to pick them up they have a different perspective of me. Suspended my license time and time again for non payment of child support.claiming I had arrearages when it is taken out of my check each week.case workers never call you back when your trying to handle a situation, they schedule hearings without notifying you in proper time.this whole system needs to be restructured. This system drives fathers who actually want to be a part of their kids life into financial debt to where they don't feel like good people.how can you be a positive role model for your kids if you have no hope that anything will change,or never see the light.it is not equality when we are barely surviving and the mothers are enjoying life your kids and being able to get what they want when they want mostly cause they have a second income they have not earned. I say that because 9 out of 10 times they don't spend the money on the child anyway.just to give you an idea of how difficult it is, I had a job making 9.50 an hour at 72 hours I grossed 642.00 in two weeks and after taxes and child support took their pieces I came home with 142.00 for two weeks. Tell me what can you do with 384.00 a month? My mortgage alone is 350.00 a month and my gas just to get to work is 100.00 every two weeks.propane is 150.00 every other month.my electric is 108.00 every month.not to mention I have to eat and pay for expenses that occur like my vehicle breaking down etc. It's a no win situation and this ain't living by anyone's standards.please address some of these issues for I am not the only one who goes through this constant battle.

My husband and I got married a decade old divorce from his first wife after she left my husband for a workmate. When she found out I was pregnant with my daughter, she started making it difficult to see my stepson. My husband had him every single weekend since his son was two. He picks his son up Friday, 7 min from his sons house and drives him to school every Monday morning an hour from our house. This has been the routine since the child was in kindergarten and now he's in 7th grade. Now she's refusing to let him have his son, saying his 13 year old is scared of his dad. Shes now taking my husband to court to get more money. Since my daughter was born a year ago, his ex has attempted suicide, she's been in mental hospitals for weeks at a time, and the drugs she's on cause seizures which have caused her to lose her license. She works, has a husband that works, has a house that is owned by her parents and lives rent free and my attorney told me if she wants more money she'll get it with no consideration for the needs of my family. Now we may lose our home, my husband wouldn't be able to afford to drive to his two hour commute to his job, or drive his son to school anymore. How is this fair that a mentally unstable person gets to destroy my family because she has emotional imbalances and why is it fair that she even gets custody. the judge is refusing to even consider her husbands income as her income. Something needs to change.

The corruption of our child support system is so unfair to the the fathers . Its nothing short of fascism. The laws need to be amended or abolished they infringe on every constitutional rights we have . I am being to to clearly see the government and the states have Instituted a fascist law on those that get married or divorced. Maybe the people who pay child support need to ban together and start a nation wide revolution on this subject as well as alimony to end this fascist law against men

Child support laws are completely unfair and impartial to the mother. I have a decent job, but after paying $1000 a month for 2 kids I am barely able to get by. On top of that I made the mistake of paying her directly between a temporary order and finally getting divorced. I am now paying an additional 500 a month for child support I have already paid. It is basically my evidence against her word. And when I met her at the bank to sign a affidavit that was her saying "yes, this is money he gave me for child support" She proceeded to black mail me for more money. She now is taking more than 60% of my net income and I am 37 year old grown man that cannot take care of myself. I am at my end. I don't know what to do. I am digging myself into a financial hole I will never recover from. DO NOT TELL ME that it takes $1500 a month to raise two kids and then expect a grown man to live on $1200. It's like the government wants to punish me. I was very unhappily married, but if I had it to do all over again, I would have made the best of it and stayed. I have an attorney working on the garnishment, but I don't anticipate it being handled any time soon. Terrified to get another job or work Overtime to help support myself because she will just get more money the next time child support is reviewed. I feel like all hope is lost.

Child support laws are old news. They were made decades ago and are not regulated the right way. The state should not be the ones deciding how they want to punish the fathers of child. This down right sickens me every day. My child does not even live with the mother and i still have to pay. I do not get to see my child and I am the one looked at like the bad person. I am fed up with these laws. Things need to change soon because I have trouble supporting the family i actually have and am able to be around day in and out@!!

Child lives 90 miles away. Non- custodial parent evicted , homeless , has no car. Please please HELP ME BE ABLE TO SEE MY CHILD. THIS IS UNFAIR

I offered to move back to the state of Connecticut so I could be next to my kids in the same school district mom accepted it but when I told her that she needs to drop the child support because I need the money to have them for the four nights she refused to do so she do not want to child support to be interrupted Connecticut . the moral of the story is she wants money instead of a father for her kids. And now I wash my hand and I'm going to do exactly what the child support want just to pay money and do nothing else, anything I do outside child support i dont get credit . From a good father and responsible I turn into a deadbeat . Sometime in life you need to Fight Fire With Fire .

Poorly written, but absolutely true! Child support in the US is horrendous. There is no consideration for the hardship placed on the non-custodial parent. There is no oversight placed on the parent receiving payment. And the payee pays all the taxes on that money!

First, I by all means agree with taking care of your children and obligations. However, the system we have in place that calculates what we as fathers have to pay out in child support is obviously broken and unrealistic. I've had a couple heart attacks and I'm not in the health I was at one point, point being, I can't work as hard as I once could. So now I work as a customer service rep for Amazon. I make $10/hr. At 40hrs/wk I gross $20,800/yr. After taxes and child support I Net (bring home) $8632/yr. If you're wondering, thats $168 a week that I actually see. 35% of my check is taken for child support. 23% is taken in taxes. That's 58% of my paycheck taken that I never see. In what world can a man survive on $168/wk. That's $672/mo. I can't even rent an apartment much less pay utilities and bills. Oh, and there's gas and food. Healthcare, whats that? If it wasn't for my father who let me move back in at 36 years old I'd be homeless. How can a father be expected to take care of his obligations to his children if the system is so one sided that it is not realistically possible for him to take care of himself. I'm expected to go to work every day to provide for my children yet I can't afford gas to get there much less auto insurance. I'm expected to go get my kids and be able to take them wherever they need to go so I'm lucky I paid my vehicle off a few years back cause now I can't even afford a crappy car. I'm expected to have a home to bring my children to stay with me when its "my time" yet I can't afford rent much less utilities. Today's child support laws and formulas are so ridiculous that if you're a single father, taking care of your children isn't a obligation or responsibility anymore, its a punishment. I pray Mr. Trump can turn this country around and if we're lucky reform these unrealistic child support laws.
