Support NSF funding for Political Science Research

Messages Sent So Far
The National Science Foundation's program must continue to support high quality research in political science.

The mission of the NSF is ?to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense.? These are concerns shared by the citizens of the United States and its elected leaders, and they are directly addressed by NSF-funded political science research. How can government become more efficient? What causes terrorism? How does technology influence democratization in the developing world? When do sanctions work? This research provides profoundly valuable insights about our current world.

In the end, rigorous, evidence-based research on political science is important because politics can dramatically change the lives of citizens - because politics and goverment change lives.

Don't support Coburn's small-ball grandstanding. Political Science research is worthwhile.

The study and critical examination of the effects of political decision making, the role of politics in democracy and the understanding of political public opinion are too important to leave to media, pundits, politicos and politicians. All of these groups have partisan bias. Political science is one of the original sciences, dating back to great thinkers such Aristotle, Socrates and Machiavelli. There is shame when as a country, we fail to support academic inquiry for the most fundamental disciplines, including, but not limited to political science.

Please keep politics out of science funding and care enough about this issue to fight Senator Coburn's personal vendetta.
