While breeding dogs suffer in these commercial facilities their puppies are being sold to consumers who are led to believe they just paid $2,000 for a dog who was bred in a loving family environment. Dogs are companion animals and should not be living like livestock in these mills. The USDA has minimum living standards for these dogs and is not doing a good job enforcing them. We need to change this, these commercial dog farmers are making a lot of money as they have little regulation or consequences. They lobby hard for a reason. How can we allow this? The public does not know about. If they did, most would never support this industry. You will see how much the public cares when MO puts it on the ballot. Please amend this for the country! We need accountabilty for the dogs and consumers who are being misled.

PET STORES SHOULD BE BANNED. THERE ARE TOO MANY WONDERFUL DOGS AND PUPPIES BEING EUTHINIZED EVERY DAY. WITHOUT PET STORES, YOU WILL ELIMINATE THE PROFIT FOR PUPPY MILLERS.

There are far too many homeless pets in the U.S. To continue allowing dog & cat sales in pet stores only exacerbates this issue and creates more homeless pets. Pet stores should NOT be allowed to sell puppies or kittens. They should be utilizing thier space and their efforts to find homes for the ones who have already been abandoned.

Do NOT allow the sale of puppies in pet stores as this only encourages puppy mills. We have too many unwanted animals in pet shelters as it is. Stop this HORRIBLE practice now!

An absolutely horrendous practice that continues because this industry is represented by the faces of adorable puppies in pet stores. Don't buy a puppy from one of these stores unless you yourself can meet the puppy's mother and are satisfied with her health and living conditions.

I can't understand why we sell puppies in stores, with so many puppies dying in shelters every minute just because they need a home. Puppies sold in stores perpetuate the puppymill industry which perpetuates the death of more and more dogs who end up in shelters. The abuse these animals suffer in mills is horrific. The pet stores keep this cycle going. Please ban the sale of puppies in stores!

Mr. President...Like many of your promises, so too did you break the one to end cruel puppy mills by not adopting a dog as you said you would, thereby squandering the opportunity to set a humane example for the nation as well as your daughters. There's a book you were featured in - maybe this will jog your memory - called A Rare Breed of Love., in which you're holding Baby, a puppy mill survivor former known as #94, the tattoo branded in her ear. When you heard she was locked in a cage for years, never stepped foot on land, had her vocal cords cut so the owners wouldn't hear her cries to be let out, suffered such severe osteoporosis from being forced to nurse litters every cycle and from being starved and deprived of walking or running for years, that her leg had to be amputated after her rescue. You put on your most sympathetic expression and vowed to end such houses of horror. While on the campaign trail you and your wife told the nation that adoption was the way to go. Instead you got an expensive dog from a fancy breeder, a dog that costs more than most people spend in a month on food or housing. In these economic times add insensitivity and a "Let Them Eat Cake" attitude to the list of your offenses. Had you kept your promise by adopting a shelter dog, you could have taught your daughters a life-altering lesson in compassion toward animals who need a loving forever home. You would have also saved taxpayers billions of dollars - the cost of killing millions of those precious pets who sit on death row right now, waiting to be taken to the kill room, many of whom were tearfully turned in to shelters due to these tough times. You missed a golden opportunity, Mr. President, to make the world a better, more humane place. I sorely regret that I not only voted for you but campaigned my heart out for you. For many of us you were our last hope. Like a sucker, I cried tears of joy the night you won. Now I see that you were nothing more than a showman and a performer, not a man of substance who keeps his word on one of the simplest and most humane promises you could have kept during your presidency, one that millions of disenchanted former Obama supporters hope lasts only a single term. As for your Nobel Peace Prize, when I heard you received it, I thought of your broken promise to end this animal abuse, and the words of Dr. Albert Schweitzer came to mind, words that Einstein and Gandhi echoed: "Until man extends his circle of compassion to all living beings, man himself will never find peace." - Dr. Jana Kohl, author, psychologist and guardian to Baby, a puppy mill survivor.

Please put an END to the abuse of animals, beginning with closing all puppy mills and those pet stores and sly brokers who are harboring and pushing these little helpless creatures into the worst situations. Please STOP these travesties.
