If they want such a ludicrous tax, why is the DEA, FDA, and the Government trying to take away the meds that us chronic pain patients need. This is another bunch of B.S. that our constituents have come up with to rip the american people off even more, just to pay for the addicts habits. Make the addicts pay for it. maybe they would be less likely to use again.....we could only hope. This is just not right. My penalty, which is what it amounts too, would cost me more than my medicine does.

As a person who suffers with chronic pain and relies on opioid pain medication to function, I am vehemently opposed to the proposed tax. It is absurd that the chronic pain population be unfairly burdened with providing a continuous revenue source for addiction treatment programs. This is yet another attack on the chronic pain community as I can't help but notice that as it is now written, buprenorphine -- the current gold standard for addiction treatment --, is exempt from this tax. This discrimination against an already vulnerable population needs to stop.

Why would any Chronic Pain Patient pay 1 cent per mg TAX for OPIOIDS to Fund the ADDICTS? They're ABUSING the medication, we as Chronic Pain Patients can NO LONGER GET. We're #patientsnotadiicts & #facesofchronicpain NOT ADDICTS. You want Law Abiding Citizens to pay for those who ABUSE not only OPIOIDS but Heroin, Cocaine & others? We WON'T & CAN'T afford to PAY 1 cent to fund an ADDICT who gets TREATED FOR FREE, as we're being DENIED our medications as LEGITIMATE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS. I knew the GOVERNMENT has lost their minds but, YOU'VE really LOST IT! I'd suggest you PROCEED to the nearest ER, that may HELP you GET PROPER MEDICATIONS to help you FIND IT? YOUR'E in NEED of an ANTI-ANXIETY/ANTI-DEPRESSANT MEDICATION - You need SOMETHING quick!! However, due to the CDC, FDA, DEA & GOVERNMENT HIPPOCRATES you're not ALLOWED these MEDICATIONS while you're PRESCRIBED OPIOIDS, correct? Our Country is in serious trouble already, in case you haven't noticed & ALL you wish to do is TAX the CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS that are LAW ABIDING CITIZENS to give ADDICTS that ABUSED ANYTHING & EVERYTHING & already get FREE treatment WITH OPIOIDS? Here's questions you ought to ask yourself: 1. Think about FUNDING a bill that's needed to PAY FOR Millions of Chronic Pain Patients who'll be on SSD while being DENIED OUR RIGHT TO the OPIOIDS that KEPT US WORKING & FUNCTIONING before the ridiculous BIASED Guidelines the CDC produced? 2. How can you think a 1 cent TAX per mg. on LEGITIMATE PRESCRIPTIONS of OPIOIDS will pay for this BILL? We've been DRASTICALLY reduced to BARE MINIMUM, while many LEGITIMATE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS get NOTHING. Do you think all 100 Million in Chronic Pain ALL have or had OPIOIDS Prescribed? 3. You're asking CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS who take our prescriptions RESPONSIBLY to pay for an ADDICT to get TREATMENT after they BECAME ADDICTED. 4. Why don't the ADDICTS PAY for the 100 MILLION CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS who NEED MEDICATION, can't AFFORD IT or CAN'T get it? Let them pay for our Injections/treatments we as CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS GET, that DON'T WORK? This Bill would have ALL ADDICTS who ABUSE, robbed PHARMACIES, killed OUR POLICE pay 1 cent per mg on what they've BEEN CAUGHT with ILLEGALLY to pay for LEGITIMATE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS to get our medications back that were prescribed by our LEGITIMATE DR'S who now fear the DEA. Their Opioids are FREE with our TAX $$ yet, they've been given OPIOIDS to SELL & PROFIT. This = a lot of $$ needed to get the DEA off our LEGITIMATE DR's backs so they can practice MEDICINE with the license to do so. We WORKED & FUNCTIONED @ 5 pain scale. We'd QUALITY OF LIFE for US & our families that was worth LIVING. Now Johnny & Suzy Whitebread are DYING since graduating to HEROIN after taking left over OPIOIDS not disposed of properly. They took them TO GET HIGH & choose to get HIGHER as ADDICTS will do ANYTHING to GET HIGH. We are #patientsnotaddicts, #facesofchronicpain being denied OUR Right to LIfe, Liberty

I personally do not take opiates and the main reason is because of all this but crazy mess . I've suffered for two years in some 10± pain with no relief and have layed in bed crying for days suffering because of stroke pain. Cps burning pain is horrible a n d my family is basically the only reason hang on.i hope someday those of us who suffer won't have to anymore because of drug abusers. The money spent on honest people taking drug test is a waste. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of those test are negative for drugs.

Unbelievable! Tax, tax, tax... This is exactly how the progressive, social engineering folks want justice as they believe it is the responsibilty of the American tax payer to fund all things justifiable in their minds for those whom are less fortunate. Well, let me tell you all very LOUDLY AND CLEARLY... chonic, debilitating pain is absolutely and unequivacably inhumane NOT to treat properly! Chronic pain patients come in all different shapes, sizes, social classes, race, religion, etc. and most importantly their INDIVIDUAL diagnosis from reputable physicians WORLD-WIDE. Unfortunately, for those of us struggling to live out our daily lives with any kind of quality of life modern medicine can provide for us, IT IS LITERALLY A SLAP IN THE FACE, yet again, to put another block in the path of our treatment. It is absolutely fine to impart Congress to address the fact so many Americans have an issue with "abuse" of narcotic pain medications which in turn may be a gateway to heavier drugs such as heroin, BUT, you CANNOT in good conscience keep putting up barriers to those of us whom DO NOT "abuse" our narcotic medications! Where you are so very wrong in doing what you all keep doing is not getting educated on the difference between "addiction" and "abuse". So, please indulge me in informing you all with due respect, the actual difference and why it is you HAVE TO INCLUDE LEGISLATION TO PROTECT THE VULNERABLE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENT. First, "addiction" or "dependence" is an effect ANY human body experiences. Then depending upon how long that person takes said medications, will definitely become tolerant, thereby needing possibly a higher dose. For a true chronic pain patient, their pain physician and/or clinic will closely monitor and adjust accordingly to relieve the pain so the person's pain does NOT go UNDER TREATED. The word "abuse" is highly crucial to your decision-making process as this is THE word which separates the disease of what you all call "addiction" and the actual NEED for a chronic pain patient to quell their pain in a way to give some sort of quality of life. Until research defines medications that will perform like a narcotic, all you keep doing is TAKING AWAY OUR QUALITY OF LIFE! The solution: help those who truly have an "abuse" problem... meaning these folks take these medications mostly for mental anguish or even recreational use and then cannot get off of them without help. A pain patient CAN stop taking these narcotics, yet only to suffer greatly from the very pain these medications work to "reduce". I use the word "reduce" because even these medications DO NOT "remove" our pain! These medications, used within the PRESCRIBED dosage and daily timing merely give us the chance to be somewhat active. That said, PLEASE do find ways to help folks who mis-use or abuse narcotics, but PLEASE give us a fighting chance for life by maybe issuing us a special ID card, medic-alert type bracelet, or emblem to wear around our nec

This makes no sense. Why should one portion of patients pay towards an addiction program. One thing doesn't have to do with the other.

Many of us with chronic pain already find it difficult to pay for our medications. You are attempting to pay for rehab for drug addicts on the backs of people with chronic pain. If we took this medication as a recreational drug, as the addicts start out doing, it might make sense. But we literally need the medication to have any quality of life whatsoever.

Taxing prescription pain medication to fund substance abuse treatment is a horrendous concept and its consideration is proof of the unrecognized "war on pain patients"... While pain research is grossly underfunded, pain patients are taxed to fund treatment centers???Where is the funding for pain research??

I was in an auto accident in 1985 and it crushed most of my body. After many surgeries I was able to get around with the help of hydrocodone as proscribed by doctor. FF 30 yrs later my doctor tells me he can no longer proscribe pain meds to me and sent me to a pain doctor. After 6 months the pain doctor tells me he can no longer give me hydrocodone and switches me to Tylenol #4. He said the law has changed and that's all he could give me. It' s 50% less effective for chronic pain and only last a 3rd of the time as hydrocodone . This new law should be named ABUSE TO THE DISABLED AND THE ELDERLY!!! I have never called in needing more pain meds then proscribed and never abused them in my life. Why should i be punished and have to suffer in severe pain because these others or abusing the meds , probably getting them from the streets or a crooked doctor. Why cant the DEA go after these doctors who are crooked and not the poor disabled that need the pain meds to have some kind of quality of life. John, College Station Texas

Passing on extra costs to the sickest of people is ridiculous. So people with cancer and other debilitating illnesses are supposed to pay for addiction treatment? It's not like everyone can get them anymore. Even patients with legitimate pain can't get the medication they need anymore, you have to be pretty bad off to get opiates. This is just unfair.
