I've guided my daughter through 3rd grade and now 4th grade math curricula that goes beyond what is age appropriate for children at the elementary level. I'm seeing junior high level math concepts being forced on the children to learn. I do believe that some of these concepts can be taught, but not in the ass-backward convoluted way that I lay witness to. The worksheets are vague in explanations and examples. The additional time that it takes to comprehend this ass-backward and convoluted way does not merit taking away quality time for children to enjoy other activities outside of school. Elementary level concepts should be taught and grasped during school hours period. This is a reflection of the a system that has not worked and failed the public for the last 50 years! I started school her in the San Fernando Valley and ended my education in North Carolina from 1971 to 85' and can say that the LAUSD and perhaps a good part of the state of California is dysfunctional and therefore ineffective in fulfilling its duty to educate. Enough is enough! Common Core is convoluted and there are other methods in addition to sticking with the 3Rs that will enable children to think outside the box. The so called experts that determine the curriculum know more and more about less and less; words of wisdom from a Chinese proverb.Oct 3rd, 2016Ann P. from Glendale, RI signed.

The PARCC and SBAC are fatally flawed, invalid tests, based on fatally flawed standards that dictate fatally flawed curricula. This whole regime is disastrous for authentic teaching and learning. They must be abandoned. The next push will be incessant testing/monitoring/data collection and data profiling from digitally provided curricula based on these same fatally flawed standards. This needs to be abandoned as well. Public education needs to be led by true educators who understand the actual needs of real children and youth. Public school children should not be mined for data and money by EdTechpreneurs.REPORT COMMENTS

I am watching my son lose his love for learning as he is being thrown concepts that are too complex too early. The tools provided offer no instruction and set children up to fail; my son's practice book is often missing key points for completing an assignment correctly. His teacher is frustrated and just moves on to the next lesson despite a room full of children who have not even understood the last lesson at a rudimentary level. How is this teaching my son? How will he excel? How do I maintain his self-esteem in this environment?REPORT COMMENTS

It is absolutely ridiculous! It's like going down the street, around the corner, and over the bridge just to get to your back yard. I feel bad for these kids when they get to college level courses as most Universities do not follow common core practices.REPORT COMMENTS

I signed this petition for many reasons but I think one of the most compelling arguments against common core has to be the mere fact that parents can't help their children with homework. The government has chosen a system, based on monetary gain, which removes even the most highly educated parent from the learning equation. When you take the home support system away what message are you sending to parents and kids. States that implement this highly flawed system have a golden carrot dangled in front of them so in the end, this is simply about control and money. I am getting ready to remove my son from public school and put him in private so that he is not subjected to the lunacy of common core and state wide testing. I will have to find the addition money somewhere den though I already pay $3,867 in tax revenue, via my real estate taxes, just to support the school board.REPORT COMMENTS

I am having to reteach my 5th grader how to add an subtract because of this horrible system. I do not appreciate that my tax dollars are being spent cramming for these tests weeks in advance. This time could be spent teaching (that is what we are paying them for, right?) our students. Stop this nonsense now.REPORT COMMENTS
