Common core has created nothing but frustration, confusion and mostly hatred for math in my sons life for the past 2 years. Starting his first years of school learning general math skills he loved school. Since our school switched 2 yrs ago, my son hates school. He is struggling with common core and we as parents are too! I feel helpless when I cant help my child with 5th grade math homework. This should not be acceptable. My child should be loving his elementary school years instead he dreads it every schhol day! Please bring back REAL math !!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I am confused Texas has not adopted the Common Core State Standards (that's what the website shows).... so why is my son's school is still having to do common core math??... we have about 2 hours of math homework a night. He is in fifth grade. Its been like this since third grade. He has a test today in math. He cried for an hour last night out of frustration.... why are we doing this to them?REPORT COMMENTS

Common coreb is by far the worst educational movement. It has destroyed the self esteem of many children who should be thriving in elementary school. Not to mention the stress and frustration of parents who have to spend a tremendous amount of time trying to help there children understand something that is unfamiliar to us parents. It has created children to hate school which may lead to more drop outs. There are way to many unnecessary steps in the math that confuse children. Children should have the option to learn more indepth math as they get older like in high school if they were more interested in becoming something like an accountant. But for now as young children they should keepbit basic until they grasp the concept.. Common core is aweful and should have been voted on through parents. Shame shame shame on you for destroying the minds of beautiful bright children!REPORT COMMENTS

My autistic son is in his first year of kindergarten. The amount of material that they are trying to cram in his head is mind boggling. He is only five and is expected to read at a 3rd grade level by the end of the year. We do 1.5 hrs of homework every week. At this rate, all kids will hate school, hate to learn, and will probably not continue education. We need more shop or cooking. Life skills. People that thirst knowledge will seek it out. This is the opposite effect that the Common Core was probably meant for.REPORT COMMENTS

The confusion and unnecessary steps added by Common Core math have singularly destroyed my child's enjoyment of learning. My highly intelligent son now hates school, thanks to this curriculum. I wonder, is it better for our kids to endure the frustration of being prepared for calculus in elementary school? Or for them to want to continue on to a college education because they still love to learn?REPORT COMMENTS

Common core (Agenda 21) will not push parents out of teaching our kids. People are starting to see and make the connections. Standards here and standards on the other side of the earth are NOT the same. This trash was never voted on nor is it even supported by the ones who were mislead in its creation. This is drone preparation GARBAGE. Get this out of our schools.REPORT COMMENTS

I literally just sat down with my 10 year old do help her with her math and I walked her through how to do long division because she said she didn't understand it. After walking her through the problem she told me that isn't how they do it in school and then she walked me through the insane garbage they are telling her to do to do simple long division! No parent understands this crap and how are we supposed to help teach our kids when WE don't have a clue how to use this mind boggling bs? I do construction daily and deal with numbers constantly. Never in my adult career have I ever needed a different system to do math nor have I seen it in regular functioning society! Please legislatures get rid of this ridiculous math. It takes longer and it's confusing as hell! Teachers can't even teach it! They are sitting out kids in front of computers and telling them, "ok now learn this." Why fix something that isn't broken?REPORT COMMENTS

I am personally impacted as an eighth grade student and I strongly disagree with the contempt of common core. It is extremely difficult and puts extra unneeded stress on students. 1/4 of the students in my eighth grade class have to result to going to the counsler in order to have a peace of mind and be able to focus in class. Panic attacks are also very common, but since it happens so often the students suffer by keeping in their emotions so they won't be sent to the counsler every other class period. Teachers have to take so many days off so they can learn what they are supposed to teach. Parents are no help to their children no matter how hard they try, beacuse they taught the way we used to learn and this criteria is just too new. As a fifth grader I was told I was a sort of a 'guinea pig' so the state could test how the children would learn in this new test. Somehow they thought it was a good idea to continue making this test. Before common core none of this happened and if it did, it wasnt as frequent. Putting an end to common core will benefit everyone teacher, students, and parents. No disrespect to anyone in anyway, but common core was a mistake.REPORT COMMENTS
