Saint Gabriel's has taught Christian values to the East Elmhurst community for the past 70 years. As a proud alumnus I can state without reservation that St Gabriel's School was responsible for molding my spiritual, intellectual, and social growth; many owe a debt of gratitude to those who taught us well. Save our school, support our church, all are welcome here!Apr 17th, 2011Someone from Springfield Gardens, NY signed.

The Lasalle School at Saint Gabriels should not close!!! Many family generations including mine have graduated and become successful in their lives due to the education, love and guidance that was provided by attending this school. The teachers taught you with so much compassion in helping you to believe in yourself and to do the very best that you can to learn. I remember when Brother Ed told me in front of my grandparents that I can accomplish anything that I want to do in life with a little more hard work. I will never forget that and that is why it's not fair to the future generations to come because they won't get the chance to experience the great education that can be obtained from this school. Pleeeease keep this school open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

This is one of the few schools in our community. So many relationships and foundations were built here. Closing the school will only add to the hardship this economy is causing so many families. Please help preserve the school.REPORT COMMENTS

You cannot close this school!!! The history of service to the community alone should be worth keeping it open. So many including myself have received such a wonderful education that this school must stay open. All of my brothers and sister attended and graduated from St Gabe's. Please keep this necessary institution open so future generations can experience all of the wonderful things that this school has to offer.REPORT COMMENTS

My family has a long history with both St Gabriel's Parish and Catholic School. My parents were married at the church and my siblings and I (9 kids) all attended St Gabriel's School. There have been financial difficulties before and the parents responded by selling their own blood to raise money for the school. If Catholicism ever has a hope of renewing itself, then it must do all it can to preserve its foundation in Catholic education.REPORT COMMENTS

St. Gabriel's and the community of East Elmhurst are roots to the foundation of my character. I received the best elementary education while attending St. Gabe's. It would be a shame to have the school closed when so many children in the community could benefit from attending there. When I returned to NYC a few years ago, I enrolled my daughter's in St. Gabe's. At the time, we lived in Brooklyn and I traveled each day to East Elmhurst so they could achieve the same academic foundation their father and I found when attending there. May God continue to Bless St. Gabe's, Brother Ed, the teachers and the students. I hope we can make a difference and keep the school open.REPORT COMMENTS

Really sad for me. I am a 1959 grad & 6 of my sisters and brothers have graduated through the 70's. My grandson is a 2001 grad. I also have a niece who is a 2004 grad. I do believe in miracles. Hoping this will be one of them.REPORT COMMENTS

I was part of St. Gabriel's class of 1973. I was deeply saddened to hear of their closing. Many of my favorite memories come from this great schoolREPORT COMMENTS
