Anyone who supports the free pet section on Craigslist needs a reality check. If you're giving away free animals to just anyone, you're basically enabling any animal abuse that goes on once they're gone. The fact that this even happens should be enough of a reason to close the pet sections down. In Missouri, a man recently confessed to abusing, mutilating, torturing, and killing kittens he got off Craigslist. It's happened multiple times all over the country. Have had to deal with these monsters myself. Please grow a conscience and end this free-for-all.

Please stop allowing Craigslist to 'sell' animals on their website. This encourages backyard breeding and far too many animals fall victim to dog fighting and horrible conditions. Dogs are not items for sale. Here in the south our shelters are FULL of wonderful dogs. Adoption should be encouraged. Rehoming is one thing, but that's about 1% of what I see happening on Craigslist.

Please hold on. I am an independant rescuer, mostly of feral/barn cats. Craigslist has allowed me to save many lives with their free ads. I agree that there is some bad people adopting out and adopting animals for inhumane purposes, but there are also GOOD people who look for pets for their families. It is a matter of screening. If it were worded that no unaltered animals can be listed for adoption, or only non-profits can advertise, etc, I would be all for that. I am not sure how I would word it, but to take this valuable resource away from me, i would not be able to save as many lives. Yes there needs to be a ban on breeders and such, but not on everyone. I don't know how they would enforce that.

Not only do people kill and harm animals in every way they can when they go to craigslist. They also sell these poor innocent for hundreds and thousands of dollars, making a living off the life of a animal that God gave us to protect, not make a living off of. Stop the breeding of all animals, we have more then enough in the pounds that die every day

Since Craig's List is refusing to stop allowing the posting of free animals on their site, law enforcement and government need to step in to proactively ban such ads because of the criminal element involved. Crimes are being committed against animals and is illegal. Websites or online businesses, should not be promoting the breaking of laws and that's essentially what Craig's List is doing by allowing free to good home ads on their site.

NO animal should be used as 'bait' for fighting dogs. Using animals in fighting rings is against the law to begin with and using domestic PETS (dogs, cats, another mammals or bird) shouldn't be used as BAIT to train them. This is a NO BRAINER! We realize there are many causes and subject matter needing attention by our Congress but this one involves LIVING BEINGS that should not be used for cruel intentions. Please pass law that denies those on Craigslist to either GIVE AWAY OR SELL ANY ANIMAL for ANY REASON.

There have been several high profile and horrific animal torture cases were the animals were obtained through Craigslist (Puppy Doe, etc.) Just Google it, it's sickening. Additionally, animals found on the site have been used as bait dogs in dog fighting rings, used as target practice, sold to research labs, and puppies, kittens and small mammals have been used as food for large snakes and reptiles. These are living beings and should NOT be sold like used property. This must end NOW!!!

Craigslist's CEO apparently doesn't care either that he helped the likes of the Texas massacre killer, Devin Kelley hone his killing murder spree skills on dogs he obtained from Craigslist. Craigslist should be banned from allowing animal ads - they contribute to animal violence. Devin Kelley IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE!!! Politicians, PLEASEEEE put an end to this and stop Craigslist from allowing this. People who post animals are most likely naive to the horrific torture they are contributors to.

There is no reason for Craig's list to allow the sale of animals. It's an open door for sick people to collect these helpless dogs so they can torture, beat, sell to labs or use the dogs as bait for dog fights. 30,000 dogs are euthanized in Nevada every year, adoption is the only way. Unfortunately the people that sell or want to rehome their dogs don't have a clue of the animal abuse that happens to the dogs they think their giving to a good home to, or they're completely heartless and ignorant.

What is it going to take for Craigslist to stop allowing animals to be "re-homed" for free. This leaves the animal vulnerable to abusers. It happens all the time. PLEASE help to protect these animals so that no harm comes to them. It's not going to hurt your site by banning animals. Do the right thing!

Abuse of animals has to stop and one step in that direction is to not allow posting of pets for free or for sale on craigslist. It is not even safe to buy and sell goods on craigslist let alone pets. Please stop this venue for irresponsible, abusive and dishonest people to use. Protecting animals is our job as responsible Americans.

CL is totally a mess, 99% or more of puppy sales on CL are backyard breeders, puppy mills, dog flippers or scammers. They say no sales and they do nothing to stop this. Free or cheap animals are abused and tortured. NOT just in the SE. I live near Seattle, WA and an animal control officer in Olympia, WA arrested a man for slaughtering animals in his home (i think it was rented home but that part is not relevant) Someone killed after torturing dozens and dozens of puppies/dogs he got off craiglist. The pet section must be closed down. If people continue to post pets on the pet services section that needs to be closed down too. You got Cl to close down their other sections which were basically prostitutes, now do the right thing again since CL is horrid and does nothing. people who truly need to rehome their pet there are other better sites such as rescue me, fido love, etc. CL pet section must come down and if need be their pet svs too since likely people will start posting there.

A law restricting animal postings on Craigslist is long overdue. Craigslist needs to ceaae allowing animals being rehomed with or without a fee. In the animal wlrld Craigslist has become a free underground network for all animal abusers to use. Those who pull free animals off just to beat to death because they can! See the case from Lebannon TN who the perpitratior admitted to pulling 6 free dogs off Craigslist JUST TO KILL. And he was slapped on the wrist with PROBATION. Not to mention the cruel animal testing labs who frequent Craigslist for new test subjects. And lets not overlook the dog fighting rings that watch for Pitbulls and bait dogs..The animals are the victims to sick people who have sick agendas. Oh.. and also there are those people who troll looking for food for themselves (who consume domestic animals such as cats, dogs, rabbits, and guniea pigs) And also.those who own snakes who will use other pets such as free kittens and domestic bunnies to feed to thier snakes. Craigslist is a hodgepodge of evils when it comes to animal postings. Even the outlawed puppy mills use Craigslist as a means to continue to operate under the radar of the local animal protective services. Also laws have been passed in most states that require animals adopted through reputable adoption agencies to be spayed and neutered PRIOR to adoption; wheras people backyard breeding that use Craigslist have no such obligations and continue because of it as a means to be irresponsible and continue to operate out of the reach of the proper authorities.
