You are weakening the defense of our Nation if you take the AH 64 from the National Guard. Please add your support to stop this transfer.Jan 15th, 2014Someone from Fort Rucker, AL signed.

Active Duty needs to get over their "We're better than the Guard" attitude, and do what is right for this country. With the debt that our country has we need a ready force at a 1/3 of the cost. Giving the guard more units, instead of taking them away, is the logical solution.REPORT COMMENTS

21 years in Guard Aviation has taught me that we have some of the best pilots and maintainers in the attack aviation community in the world. I'm proud to be a member of the Army National GuardREPORT COMMENTS

I have the unique experience of working at the management level of both the Active Army and National Guard. Without exception the National Guard exceeds the Army in aviator proficiency and maintenance expertise.REPORT COMMENTS

I have served in both Active Duty (AD) and National Guard (ARNG) aviation units. I expected the ARNG unit to be a poor second to the professionals on Active Duty. I was completely wrong. ARNG personnel were and are much better trained, qualified and experienced. To lose this priceless national asset would damage the readiness of the entire military.REPORT COMMENTS

Initial training costs, just during flight school, are roughly a million dollars ? just for one Apache pilot. If all Apache pilots in the Guard were cut, the cost of this [flight school training] loss is over half a billion! This is money already spent that Active Duty is willing to forfeit. Never mind the fact that Active Duty will have to pay this cost, again, to replace and train the new pilots who will fly what once were Guard Apache helicopters. What is not tangible here, but has a price value that is significantly higher, is the cost accrued over years of flight training to mature a new pilot into a seasoned combat pilot. It takes time to develop aviators, mechanics, and leaders ? and this time is money? and increased accident rates. There is rumor circulating among the force that Active Duty may also retire several National Guard Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs), the basic deployable ground maneuver units which includes infantry, artillery, armor, and reconnaissance units. It only cost 0.8 billion Dollars a year to maintain a Guard BCT versus 3.8 billion Dollars a year for an Active Duty BCT. A viable strategy: move one Active Duty BCT to the Guard, which would provide funding for three additional Guard BCTs. And if the Guard acquired three BCTs from Active Duty, this could save $9 BILLION ANNUALLY! Doing so will protect the force structure of the Nation, but at a significantly reduced savings.REPORT COMMENTS
