I believe the death of ANY immediate family is going to take more than three days to grieve. My mother committed suicide and I has anxiety attacks for months afterward.

Agreed that this should be added, but also the death of a child should be included. There is no way you could return to normal in 3 days.

Returning to work 3 days after the death of a spouse is not good for the employee, employer, and certainly not for the co-workers. I know this from firsthand experience. I believe 2-3 weeks to get things done; get a death certificate & short form, meet with attorney and/or accountant, make changes to your own will, power of attorney, etc., file necessary papers with state, cancel mobile phone account (they require a death certificate), change bank accounts, contact life insurance to begin process of filling out paperwork, making all the business type changes that are needed, clean out spouses office at their place of employment, sell their car, and get some sense of order into our lives. These things can not be done within 3 days.
