Congress needs to change this... We as taxpayers are paying entirely too much money for inmates being housed spending 85% of their life in prison. I feel as if a prisoner should only have to spend 65% in jail, especially if it's non-violent!

My son has completed 5 years of his 8-year sentence. He has never had any infractions. He was even asked to speak in prison to other inmates during a class. Assisted The Chaplin with all aspects of Church services and ran the sound system. 3 days ago, he was told he had to go back to court because the state had not yet charged him with 3 other small charges form 5 years prior. He was sentenced to more time. An additional 1 - 2 years i believe.

My husband got 19-27 years, first time offender. 1 charge!his points are the same as those you have multiple DUIs, yet because of his time hes in with killers in max. His projected release date is 2032. With 2 kids under 10. This would make a huge difference. Not to mention changing kids lives, the percentage of children with a parent whos incarcerated is overwhelming. Stop the cycle, and change some lives!!!

My husband was sentenced to 10 years in 2014 for conspiracy to distribute . When all he was doing was providing for his family. His release date is 2022 which adds up to 85%. At 65% his release date would be 2019. That is a big difference. also, what about the affect it has on the children. My 10 year old daughter who was 5 at the time of his incarceration will be 14 when her dad comes home. There are murderers, molesters, rapist etc. who get far less. Please change the laws.

My fiancé was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for a non violent crime and I just feel like that is unnecessary. He has already done 65% of his time he should be released or at least out on parole for the rest of his sentence. There are people doing terrible crimes such as molesting children, raping helpless women, hate crimes all across America. It is definitely time for a change.

I have a loved one incarcerated at Augusta Corr. Century. His name is Robert Troy Francis (1103186), and he was arrested on September 9,1999 for bank robbery, threatening to bomb, and other charges.Though no one knows his guilt more than him, sir,he was not the one that went into the banks. He was the driver. His codefendant was the one that went into the banks, yet even though he was very cooperative with the detectives (who actually wrote a letter of leniency for him) he was given the way harsher sentence. His codefendant was only given 14 1/2 years.Even though he had other charges he didn't deserve the 47 years and 22 months sentence he was given. This September will be 19 years and he isn't 1/2 way through his sentence. I have known him personally since 2004 and his other family members for 20 years. Through the years, though not perfect, I have watched him grow through the years and I know he is not the man he was in 1999.I know in my heart that this has been a life long lesson for him. With that being said,I feel that a sentence like this is extremely unfair. The crime doesn't fit the punishment.I have seen murderers, rapist, child molesters, all brutal crimes yet the offenders do not have a 1/4 of his sentence. Mr.Francis sat in a car at a young age,and yes we know he is guilty, he hurt no one, harmed no one,and personally never threatened anyone personally. His codefendant entered the bank and passed the note, yet only received 1/3 of the sentence he did. Mr.Francis has earned 2 degrees while being incarcerated and volno in his pod teaching English as a second language to Spanish inmates. He has lost 2 family members (mother and sister 2 months apart in 2002) and all contact with his son.Now his son is an adult and he would like to be able to know his son again ( who attends Christopher Newport University) and guide him as he starts adulthood. They deserve a chance to build a relationship before it's to late.Lessons I know he has been taught in his own life. Sir taxpayers are paying over $25,000.00 a year for this man to sit in prison who did nothing violent personally. If Mr.Francis was given the opportunity to return home to what family he has left, they are willing to give him a home and the support it will take for him to become self supportive, earns an honest living, and see that he gets back and remains on his feet. I am friend of over 30 years and I would give him a home plan out of state and a brand new start away from his past in Va. if that is something of consideration. contact information is 678-673-4131 I know as well as anyone that has spent time with him knows that if he were to return home he would become a positive part of the community again. He would be a great asset to society as a mentor to the younger generation. He could teach them not to choose the path he took so long ago. Lastly Sir,I'm not making excuses for him but at the time of his crimes he was going through some tough times that was hard on his psyche. He had just lost his father and was going through a separation from his wife.A wife that pressed false charges against him in Hanover County.Sir he thought he was going to prison for something he didn't do,so he kind of snapped from all that was falling down around him. What sane man does what he did?The charges ( if you would have someone check the transcripts from Hanover County) were retracted by his wife that admitted she pressed false charges with a notarized letter to the courts, but by then the damage was done. These are the plans we have for Mr.Francis.Sir,all I ask is that you review this case for pardon. Please review this matter and maybe send someone to meet him personally. Thank you for your time in reading this.I know it is valuable. Sincerely, June Dorminey

Dear congressman I sign this petition in hopes that someone will take serious the debt that Arizona is in due to the overpopulated overcrowded prison and the flood system we are under having non dangerous nonviolent criminals in prison for 5 plus years and extremely violent criminals in prison only for 2 years does not seem to make a whole lot of sense the overcrowding is due to keeping non-dangerous non-violent criminals in the system and not giving them some kind of reward system to move forward with their life

My family and I are suffering right now because of my Fiancé was taken from her daughter and home and sentenced to 36 months// 3 years for a woman that has No history of anything. The State of Florida Prosecuting Attorney did Not nudge at all , they gave her the 36 months but instead they could of gave her 21months. She begged for probation, community service, House arrest, reduction of sentencing. They didn’t care and gave her max of 36months. We need help?? This woman needs to be home with her daughter. She is deeply remorseful and sadend. Non violent affenders don’t need prison time. Please help and change this?

My Fiancé is 41 years old and she has NO Priors at all. She is single mom with a 8 year old little girl, and her daughter’s father committed Sucide when she was 5 yes old. She made one mistake in her life only. And they just sentenced her on March 6,2018 for 36 months. 3 years. Now the state prison system just took this little minor Child without her mom now. Both parents gone. There is NO reason to put this mom into prison for 3 years. Give her house arrest and probation ????

They should be entitled a second chance, many are doing more time than inmates with violent crime, where is the fairness. Let them go already, many have done more than 50% of their time and deserve an opportunity to be free again.
