Our system is truly broken. There are so many places for the ones with drug addictions that rule their decisions end up spending years in a facility so corrupt they cannot ever heal, but there is money being made for everyone so they don't want them in facilities that cost 1/3 and have an 85% success rate. Let's take the money and so called heroism from them and they might have to actually look at each case remember they are human beings needing help. The prisons set them up for return because they fight everyday not to be abused raped or used where drugs and violence run rapid, Let's start with getting the ones out of office who don't have the ability to change bad laws.

I noticed in Orange County, inmates serve half time. It used to be 85% a few years ago. However, the initial time being sentenced is longer now, so no one is actually getting out any sooner than they were before. My brother always served 85% of three weeks for probation violations, (and they were always minor violations, like showing up late for an appointment or something.) Anyway, he’d be released a little more than two weeks later. NOW, he’s being sentenced to 90 or 120 days at half time. But he’s serving MORE time than before for the same bs violations. So be careful what you ask for. If time gets reduced to 65%, the initial sentence will just be made longer, and NOTHING changes.

I am so glad people are finally seeing how Florida judges and prosecutors have abuses it's judicial power. Especially in Pinellas County. Any minority who has ever been sentenced should have their case(s) reviewed. State prosecutors exaggerate the charges leading to a higher conviction rate and longer jail time. Public defenders work to help the prosecution for a conviction and the judges are quite aware of what's going on and allow it. They are paid for convictions and will do unethical things to get that check. Pinellas County is notorious for this. There should be a review of cases done in Pinellas and if found that the prosecutors or judges have violated their oath as lawyers they should be jailed and have to serve 85% of their sentence and their should stiff sentences imposed on them as they have imposed them on others. Just saying...

Dear Someone from Scottsdale, AZ; Good Afternoon. I see that you have nothing better to do, because I was writing in reference to the issue at hand which is too help our inmates get a 65% rate of time in prison, instead of 85% and all you could do is concentrate on the fact that I addressed our president as "Mr. Donald Trump" instead of "President Trump". I called him by his name and not out of his name, so what are you talking about? Concentrate on the issue, how about that!!!!! Have a great and blessed day Someone from Scottsdale, AZ!!!!!!!!

Dear Mr. Donald Trump & Congress; Good afternoon. I want Thank You for giving me the opportunity to express my opinions. I believe that there is a lot of BOP inmates that have been sentenced to the extreme, but that does not mean that they haven't done anything wrong. I believe that 65% is a fair percentage and 65% depending on the sentencing of the inmate, is still a good percentage that they have to serve. I believe in second chances as none of us our perfect. However, we can all win from this percentage change. I believe it will be less money for all of us. Less money coming out of us tax payers pockets and less money the government has to provide to the Federal Prisons since their will be less inmates. Also, you can make the law stating conditions, like for example, if the law is changed to 65%, then whatever inmate comes out with the 65%, if they go back to prison then they shall have to serve 85%. Just a thought. I know that the readers or bloggers won't like my idea, but what is fair is fair. You are helping them with the 65% change, so they must come out to society and change their lives for the better, Right!!! Well, I hope that you take my thoughts and opinions into consideration. Thank You all and have a safe and blessed day.

This should have been changed many years ago and also billions of dollars ago. Rehabilitation instead of incarceration! Non violent prisoners should be given alot less time than rapists or murderers by far! I cannot believe this isn't a law yet! Its rediculas in my opinion that non violent inmates dont get less time, especially when they have been proving themselves able to be rehabilitated. This needs attention asap and needs to be changed asap!

I really feel they should lower it to 65%. My husband was given 30 years for a non-violent crime. Took it back to coury and they took off 15 years. So now he has done 9 years to long already for really something he did not do. They had no evidence on him just him being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel that he has done more thanhe should have . Plz pass this bill and give them a second chance.

With all due respect I feel that the only way to understand this bill and appreciate it is to put yourself in the shoes of an inmate. It's really very simple . You can choose to be on an island vs a prison tank. Your choice. The other choice you get to make is the type of people you will be living with until you are either released or rescued .( depending on where you choose to vacay) Me personally, I choose to have my cellie or Gilligan be a first time non -violent offender. Actually I think I speak for the vast majority of us when I say I would much rather have a Gilligan as a roommate, or cellie instead of a PeeWee Herman, or the Subway guy. Or even worse a Charles Manson. I have one better for you. If your kids had to to be in a cell or island what type of individuals would you select. And I say kids for the simple fact that it isn't real until you get that call. When your 18 year old hits the county or even worse ,their tank. The last thing you want is for them to be locked up with a potpourri of inmates. I.e., pedos, the aggravated and violent group, the rapists or serial killers that have been to the rodeo on numerous occasions. And guess what, with the overpopulation of prisons nowadays, you get thrown in to whatever tank is available . There's is no tracking system to keep the non violent offenders separate from the violent offenders. May God help our youth when they land in the aggravated tank. I hope to have made my point. People ask for drugs. People and kids do not ask to get raped, molested or beat. The likelihood of first time offenders being able to re enter society is much greater than a violent offender for the simple fact that the first time offender more than committed the crime to survive or care for their loved ones. I'm not justifying much less giving grounds. What I am saying is that there is still a sense of motivation to provide that is not just for themselves but for others. Now for the other group I cannot say the same. I see the other group like a vampire that has tasted blood. And that will never have a good ending for that individual much less for our society.
