Married to a first time non violent offender who is still in prison since 09 because Fair Sentencing Act was NOT made retroactive. This has left me to raise our three children who are now 14 and twin boys who are 11......alone for the last 5 years as I sufferer from the effect Multiple Sclerosis has taken on my body, WOW....what a great system of justice we have in this country! Especially considering the fact that my husband was pursued viciously by a federal informant working with the to reduce time from THEIR SENTENCE. God bless America....justice that fits should not be limited to those sentenced after Aug 2010!

Our family has recently seen two of our family members report to federal prison for a first offense, white collar crime that involved their own business. These two men made a mistake and admitted so. These two men are not young and stupid, have lived their lives lawfully and are now serving many years in the BOP for their FIRST OFFENSE. In other areas of our judicial system such as the state and local levels, the offender is given a slap on the hand for first time offenses like DUI for example, and allowed to go free. I personally know two men who has never served timefor these offenses, one of them has 4 DUI's and the other has 2. Neither have served time for these offenses. The BOP is over crowded and sure if someone commits a crime they should be prosecuted and sentenced to prison, but for the length of time that is imposed on first time offenders in without a doubt too long. These were non-violent crimes these two gentlemen committed and unfortunately they are paying a major price, for many years to come. Missing years with their children and being housed so far away, in one case, that it makes it practically impossible for him to have a visitor. There is something terribly wrong with the sentencing guidelines relative to time sentenced as compared to state and local level sentencing of offenders who have committed violent acts. Please change this law to inmates serving 65% from the current 85% for non-violent offenders.

It is clear to all who have no political or financial interests in the prison industry that our penitentiaries are no longer built for "rehabilitation" and "reintegration". There is a large amount of data to support the fact that cutting off a person's connection to friends, family, and loved ones in the ways our prison's do is counter to the needs of those persons in order to prevent recidivism. If the true purpose of our penal system in the US is to reform those who don't "fit" into society, then the needs of the offenders and their loved ones should always be taken into account to some small degree. We also have had many changes to our laws that provide for extreme sentencing for most every crime. Providing for gain time beyond only 15% is a valuable tool that can be used to assess the needs of individual inmates program of rehabilitation. I am American citizen who has always placed a great deal of importance on true justice and will always fight for such where possible, I ask that my Congress give this matter their full attention and consideration. Thank you.

This still isn't exactly right some people are classified as violent offenders even though they never hurt anybody in any way. It is not right that they have to do 85% just because they are classified as violent offenders especially when they are already sentenced to way too much time to begin with.

Too many people are serving too much time for petty crimes. They seem to come out worse then when they went in. 65% is a must!

I agree 100% that non-violant offenders are given too much time.
