My boyfriend has served 65%, has taken drug classes, became a certified drug counselor, and works 12 hours a day telemarketing and has $40,000 saved up in prison. He learned a lot and changed a lot but at this point he’s just holding space that could be used to reform someone else. -

I agree with giving non violent offenders less time, but at the end of the day it’s gard to rehabilitate these people. They become so institutionalized that they don’t last a week outside when released. The programs are there in prisons, but only a few benefit from those programs, simply because they don’t care. The ones that do make it out and stay out. Prisons are big business, I know I used to work there and the politics there is worse than the free world.REPORT COMMENTS

We need more help for the people that have become addicted to this dam heroin it's killing so many people and ripping familys apart instead the system puts them in prison yeah that's easier then helping them. Or another good one they put everyone on methadone yeah that's the smart choice because on methadone they just go get there drink everyday but check it out there is I bet out of 100 ppl that get methadone I bet 75 of them still do there heroin if they were smart girl e them a drug that they can't get high like soboxin or Subutex no instead you put them on methadone and we still have the problems can't you see what these drug is doing . But that's the system yup let just lock them up and not deal with it it's easier that wayREPORT COMMENTS

DOC and Florida lawmakers have deceived you. They have put the worst of the worst on TV! So That the public believes every person in prison is a violent criminal that is violent inside as well as being a rapist. That’s just not true for prison system is a business to make money the private institutions show you that. It’s easy to make you imagine a place you’ve never been especially if you’re close minded person. If you’re reading this and don’t understand I want you to imagine that the guy that lives next-door the girl that lives next-door your mailman your Uber driver your bartender your Carpenter your screen room builder anybody you can possibly think of Sitting in prison. And that is who makes up 85% of the population. They’re not violent criminals just people, people just like you sitting in prison for 20 years I’ll because they were found with a couple painkillers because they legitimately had a back problem. That’s called job security not protecting the public. If you don’t believe me ask around a little bit ask the people you see every day if they themselves or one of the family members has been to prison and everything I just said you will be proven. How can the state guarantee private institutions a certain amount of prisoners to fill their bed space. What if the crime rate fill tremendously because a lot of the laws that are on the books now we’re taking off because the public no longer allowed prison to be a big money business. Every single person should sign this petition. There’s very few people in prison that you can actually say belong there about 5%REPORT COMMENTS

There is just Too Much Political/Personal Conviction/Sentencing today.in order to advance prosecutors' careers.people are first over charged in order to get people to plea and thus elevating the procecutors/counties' conviction rate. Then comes the excessive sentencing to claim their tough on crime push. But in actuality it's people who in most cases have committed personal usage crimes who out of fear or little to no representation quickly take a plea. Not your traffickers, murderers or even repeat offenders. For repeat offenders the outcome is even more grim,if you have committed a crime, even 10yrs ago you will get years added to your sentence more than the crime you have actually committed. You of course Do Not get any type of leniency for your crime free decade.REPORT COMMENTS

Give the convicts a chance. Help them when they get out of jail instead of slamming all these fines on them. Nobody will hire them because of their records. They can't drive because they have to pay fines of first. Society doesn't even give them a chance so what do they do?? Only thing that they know, sell dope. Offer them more programs in jail and maybe work towards paying on fines in jail.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been to prison in AZ on two separate occasions and the biggest problem is there's nothing done to stop the state's biggest problem- drug addiction. There's drugs readily available on every yard ranging from heroin to methamphetamine but heroin and now buprenorphine being the most popular along with synthetic marijuana. Drugs will not stop going into prison yards but there's no effort to stop the inmates from wanting them. They offer 12 step meetings but they are voluntary only and not everyone can align with these types of programs. There also needs to be vocational job training to better help inmates prepare for the real world. It gets really overwhelming with having to pay rent, a phone bill, insurance, car, gas, if you have children. It would cost a little to start these programs but it would save the state money in the end.REPORT COMMENTS

My daughter 15 years old is currently serving 5 years in prison for a non dangerous non repetitive crime she has never been in trouble been in trouble before seeing what happened to this CHILD has made me loose complete faith in the az justice system Arizona's punishments are too harsh especially with first-time offenders with very little way for a person to reintegrate themselves into society which leads a person with a higher probability of going back to prison which keeps the taxpayers in a vicious cycle of having to pay for people going back to prison this is just a vicious cycle for the taxpayers and the prisoners that have been released most prisoners have nothing to come back to or nothing to go home to so they have to be given away to reintegrate and to society so they can do things right when they do get out into societyREPORT COMMENTS

I know for a fact the incarceration process in nc state prisons only teach them how to come out and do it differently. The ones that change are stuck in there with ones that get a slap on the wrist and are back again and again. please pass this law. my fiance has been in there 2 1/2 yrs and this was his first drug related offense, but the ones that have been in there time and time again are getting 6months for their 3rd and fourth time. I dont get it how can you sentence people with drug abuse problems to prison their first time instead of a good treatment facility. In my opinion the government has failed its people you have created the drugs they abuse and then when they figure out how to get it themselves you shove them in prisons with rapist murderers child molesters the worst of the worst when you could have sent them to a real rehabilitation facility with the money youre investing into make them career criminals. Many of the ones that my fiance try to witness to tells him that they have a new spin on it this time and when they get out they doing it again. He just walks away because he is done with that mistake. im not going to hide my identity either i am not scared and the truth is welcome in the eyes of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
