First time offenders deserve a second change. We all make mistakes. First time offenders CAN and should be rehabilitated The structured sentence law in NC needs to be revisited it could save millions and help a lot of families suffering

I think this is a good idea. Plus more time should be given to violent offenders that rape, kill or molest. The law is completely backwards and needs to be changed.

Inmates with a disability in a minimum security facility should be a priority due to the fact that they are not getting the proper medical care .

Inmates in minimum security with medical needs should be priority to be released early as they are not taken care of medically in our overcrowded prisons.

i agree on the 65% law the jails are so over crowded that my husband is sleeping on a mat on the cell floor hes having to do 9 month for not being able to show up to probation because of a broke ankle that he needed surgery on and had no ride to probation . in February a jail in my state have a huge riot leaving prison guards dead and i feel if the prison wasnt so over crowded and the prison were actually treated respectfully and got the services they need something like that would have never happened

There are circumstances to some violent crimes that does not make the offender a menace to society, some can be reformed. Why is it that all the help on reducing sentencing is only for non violent cases?

From a fiscal point of view it seems obvious that the US is using an antiquated approach to incarceration. We spend millions of dollars to punish violent, and non-violent, inmates alike. Incarceration is used, in my opinion, to punish different offences yet we incarcerate non-violent offenders as long, if not longer, than those convicted of violent crimes. Stop using the "cookie cutter" approach because one size does NOT fit all! Let these people, who have served their debt, out so they can become productive members of society once again! Fewer inmates equals less taxpayer money being spent...bottom line!

I don't think it's fair that non-violent offenders should have to serve 85% of their time. It's truly unfair.

Nonviolent offenders serve too much time in a system that needs to be updated. It's unfair for them and it's a hindrance on taxes. Too much time in prison is not the way to reform people.

My poor girl just a child 15 years old had to take a plea agreement for 5years for a crime 5full grown men committed her crime was being raped and beat inside of her home she was associated with the men that decided to take this action not her thanks to the prosecuting attorney that wanted nothing more than to make a reputation for himself in this very small and dying town called she Holbrook she got 5 years he did not care about this little girls life and neither did the judge no one cared that the crime against my daughter was reported and ignored or that several laws were broken just to name a few Her Miranda rights were broken the Brady Law was broken her 4th amendment rights were broken raped beaten and without your rights this is what my daughter learned from the justice system that they would not be on her side because it was more important for this prosecuting attorney to make a reputation for himself and in a small little dying town dont get beat or raped inside your home in Arizona or you will do prison time the judge was more concerned about making the prosecuting attorney happy then seeing the actual case he just gave her 5 years without even hearing anything she had to say poor kid suffer from post traumatic stress because she was raped and beat inside of her house and now she will do 5 years because of other people's decisions I think it's time to start changing the laws she was 15 at the time and Navajo County did everything they could to hide the fact that they were prosecuting a 15 year old child even lying about her age and changing the dates on her documents at please least change the law to 65% so she doesn't have to do all this time for something she didn't do I feel sorry for anybody else this has happened to we fought this for 2 years the fact is if you don't know somebody in Navajo County wich everyone is related everyone then your in trouble It don't matter if you do something or not this town just wants the money so if you are not a villain here the prosecuting attorney's in Holbrook will make sure that you are by the end of the day and they will put your children and women in prison here for things they did not do while drug traffickers murderers and rapist get the least amount of time or no time at all was very hard to look in this guys eyes the man that raped and beat my daughter and see the satisfaction he was getting out of being able to rape and beat my daughter in her own home and then throw her in prison we had proof to save my daughter from prison but nobody would hear it or listen they just didn't care about this little girl her plans were to go to Peace Corps and start an orphanage the man that raped her was a drug addict and an alcoholic and so was his whole family I'm just beside myself in sick to death but this happened to her guess Holbrook Court will get it when this man finally kills somebody

Why hold him so long it's tons of things he can do at home! 10 years i know he has learned his lesson. This has to change.

This isn't fair, my sons father needs the come home. He is 6 years old, he needs mentoring. And he has already done 10 years. He got 17 years. It's ridiculous, my boyfriend got reckless endangerment. He didn't murder anyone. Don't you think it's time to change things? I think anyone who has 25 or less should do flat bids.

It needs to change! So many people are in federal for so long because of mandatory minimums! Yes a lot of prisoners deserve the time they get but plenty of them don't... The 65% would be life changing for prisoners and families that have been torn apart because of the extreme sentences.

Please Please Please change the law. My husband and father of 3 is serving a 15 year sentence for a non-violent drug charge. If he does 85% of his sentence my children will grow up without their father. I'm not saying he's innocent but good Lord 15 years is a lot of time. I know a man who served less than 3 years and has had 15+ drug charges on more than one occasion but since his mother works for a government official he's been running around. Please find it in your hearts to think of the children that are growing up without a parent. My husband has been in there now for 3 years. My son is now 9 years old and my daughters are 13 & 17. My son will be 21 when his father gets out. My husband is a great father and a wonderful husband. He made some bad choices while we were taking a break from eachother and he regrets them and is paying the ultimate price. Please reduce the sentences.

I couldn't agree more the laws in az do not make any since my daughter 15 years old got 5 years for something she didn't even do (it was considered no dangerous) and still got 5 years then just 2 weeks ago a friend of mine got raped held hostage and beaten by this man and the guy is still out walking around doing what ever he wants waiting to find his next victim justice here in az is just completely unfair I wish someone could really make some kind of difference az is a beautiful place but no one wants to come here I hear people saying things like come on vacation stay on probation that's what az is known for that's pretty upsetting when will we need someone to take charge and do the right thing for everyone taxpayers and all
