It is indeed a racist tax, seeing as mostly white people go tanning. They say its to prevent skin cancer, I say its more about them obtaining more power and money.REPORT COMMENTS

Considering the majority of race that does tan, this "Tan Tax" is a racial law and should NOT be allowed to go into effect.REPORT COMMENTS

It is clear that this is not about tanning beds, or a health issue. If so then ALL businesses having a tanning unit would have suffered this tax. Gyms,Beauty salons,Nail salons, apartment complex. NONE of them are being required to pay this tax. I am devastaed. I am a female, i started my business on my own almost 20 years ago, grew to mulitple locations, have given hundreds of individuals jobs. Now just when my daughter is getting ready to graduate and go to college. I may be closing all my locations due to the Excise tax being added on top of the sales tax and all other taxes that I have paid for all these years. The negative pubicity that has been overplayed and is now being proven so, was to sell congress on something they had no idea of. Had someone taken some time to REALLY look at this. they wouldnt look so foolish now. There was to be NO increased tax to those individuals making $29k or less or families making no more the $250k per year. Rest assure. 99% of my clients as individuals or families are not making that kind of money. therefore shouldnt have been asked to fund this bill. shame shame so you put us out of business, ill assume theyll bail me out just like the car industry as well.REPORT COMMENTS

I think this is totally ridiculous! They can't seem to get a universal health care passed, but they sure can seem to add yet another tax on the lower to middle-class! Is the government going to go house to house and tax those people that are lying out in their back yards tanning? What about all outdoor public pools, construction workers, or even lawn care professionals? They are all out in the sun as well. Or are we going to blindly assume that they are all using sunblock? I think this is unfairly targeting a specific group of people and I think it is discriminatory.REPORT COMMENTS

This just goes to show what we knew all along. The power, influence and hype that the dermatogists and big corporations (sunscreen) have on politics. Its no wonder we are sinking deeper and deeper into debt as a country! Try running the goverment like a business, spend less that you earn. Thanks Obama for "not raising taxes on the middle class". PA Tanning salons enduring a 30% rate hike by PP&L just got another slap in the face with your 10% discriminatory tax. You have until Sept. to change this grossly unfair tax or suffer the layoff and higher unemployment! 3 tanning salons closed in my area this month alone. More to follow. AND CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY A DR. THAT USES A TANNING BED AT $60 - $100 A POP TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS TAX EXEMPT? EVEN THE TAX EXEMPT PLACES ARE NOT TAN TAX EXEMPT! Lets just call this what it is! XXXXXXXXXXXXX Why don't you let us all close our business' and collect unemployment sending anyone left that wants to tan to the "DR. Office" They are the ones that really need the $$$$$. HOW MUCH DID THEY CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR CAMPAIGN? IT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH TO GET YOU ANOTHER TERM! DO THE RIGHT THING!REPORT COMMENTS
