As a doctoral student in political science at a public research university, I have experienced the benefits of NSF funds firsthand. There is no justification to eliminate funding for political science any more than any other science, especially when it does nothing to reduce government spending.REPORT COMMENTS

Dear Senators Nelson and Johanns, As a personal aside to this form email: I am a Republican. NSF funding for political science research is an important way that the government can encourage productive work on all manner of ways that groups of people can interact with government and each other to increase understanding and knowledge. This also has spill over effects into business and other tangible realms. While the effects may not be immediate, they represent an important way that government can support the growth of our people: through education. I encourage you to vote against curbs on political science funding. However, I do encourage a careful review of how that money is spent. There are frivolous projects amongst the many good works. A more rigorous review process is certainly a good idea. Respectfully, Jim MartinREPORT COMMENTS

I'm a graduate student in Political Science at the University of Florida, so clearly I view Political Science as a societal good as well as a public service and am not pleased at such a callous disregard as this amendment has offered. While I wish I could say I was surprised at this event, I'm not (perhaps because of my time studying politics). Political Science, Civics, the understanding the importance of government/citizen involvement are vital to this country and to this world. And 218 members of Congress told me that my course of contributing to society, to the workforce is not as valuable as others--and I don't think that's true. With record amounts of civil apathy and, in fact, disdain to our political system, political science is more relevant than ever.REPORT COMMENTS

This country was founded on the premise that the science of government had enabled the Framers to advance the project of ordered liberty beyond anything achieved by prior generations. Political science is a quintessentially American contribution to enlightened self-government. We owe it to our future generations to not only fully fund, but celebrate and reclaim the principles and understandings that informed this country's foundation.REPORT COMMENTS
