Head Start is a program that is vital to the communities which it serves. It not only provides a nurturing, educational preschool environment, but it also addresses medical, dental, and mental health, and teaches school readiness skills and social skills. The program assists the parents and provides family advocacy. Dollar for dollar it has proven itself to be effective- for every dollar spent on programs such as Head Start- an early intervention program- we save seven dollars in the long run. As citizens we should be spending our federal dollars on our future- the children- and ensuring that they are as prepared as possible for success in school and ultimately their futures. -

My children went to Head Start, this gave them a great beginning. They are now responsible, productive citizens and my daughter is paying it back as a Head Start Teacher. This is too import to lower income families. This should be an outrage!REPORT COMMENTS

Head Start has allowed me to hold a steady job and even advance in my career by providing an excellent education for my children. Becoming kindergartners, they have an advantage over other children who weren't fortunate to attend preschool. I am a Head Start teacher and I am devastated that the goverment is taking away these programs for our children...what about "no child left behind" you take away this for them and every child will be left behind. I love my job and my students and I don't want this taken away from them. This is the age where soical skills are so very important.
