Please give this lovely lady somewhere warm and wonderful to spend the last years of her life. The conditions she is living in are inexcusable! Please DO NOT "put her down" . This is not the answer! She can be transferred to a zoo that can take proper care of her. I would like to donate to the zoo that gives this sweet lady a happy place to spend her final years! Please do not let the conditions she lives in now be her final remembrance of what humans are like! Please let her experience some kindness and joy! -

I am writing to express my sympathy for Tania and urge the Romanian Government to free her. I am Romanian and I know the conditions animals are kept. I the the fate of the elephant who was tortured and murdered at Baneasa Zoo. I was little when my parents took me to Baneasa and I will never forget the feelings I had when I saw the poor elephant tided up with a chain ,banging his head. I learned that later on he died. I am writing to day to express my deep sympathy for one of your captive elephants named Tania, who is held at Trgu Mures Zoo. I understand that many citizens of Romania feel that captive elephants are a curiosity that will make them money somehow. However, I feel strongly that capitalizing on the suffering of another sentient being is a grandiose display of humanity at its worst. According to Mahatma Ghandi, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." I would extend that to say how its wildlife fellow beings are treated, and would remove any thought that we possess them in any way. I urge you to ban these captivity practices for poor Tomi's sake and for the sake of all bears living in deplorable conditions for the amusement of people. Romania is a beautiful country and its culture should show it in the treatment towards its animals. Thank you very much,REPORT COMMENTS
