I am a retired teacher with a very small pension. Due to WEP, I am unable to have a spouse's Social Security pension. However, spouses that have not worked are entitled to this type of pension. I paid into my pension as well as the district where I taught. In addition I pay more for my Medicare premiums and the reason I was given "you do not receive a Social Security check". This does not seem fair!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with all of the above. I am currently retired after 32 years of public service. I have a small pension. I had to go ahead and retire because my husband had terminal cancer. I nursed him until death and I can not receive any of hi ss income due to the wep and gpo guidelines. I am doing everything I can to cut back on bills with one income . it is very hard on me. this passing of this policy would surely give me some relief.REPORT COMMENTS

WIDOWS NEED HELP NOW! Kent Conrad and James Lockhart....think that Soc Security should be MORE FAIR to Widowed Women! Conrad thinks widowed women should GET THEIR OWN BENEFITS and 3/4 of their DECEASED SPOUSE'S BENEFITS! This model for Soc Sec would keep Widowed Women OUT OF POVERTY!!! REPEAL: WEP & GPO for Widowed Women WHO TEACH IN MISSOURI! Tell Congressmen to PASS: HR 973 & S 1651. OR....Time To Correct the MATH FOR WEP....per Kevin Brady's HR 711.REPORT COMMENTS

I served for the Federal Govt. under CSRS for 28 years at the time I retired. Through my Federal career and well after retirement, I worked a variety of jobs, some full time, and more than earned my 40 quarters. Well, unfortunately, I qualified for Social Security Disability at the age of 60. Because of WEP/GPO, I only receive $211/month from SSD until I reach 66, at which time all of that monthly stipend will be sent to Medicare, giving me NO benefit for earning my 40+ quarters of social security. They took $435 approx. away from me because of WEP and said that I probably would not be able to collect ANY of my husband SS (30 FERS) because they would reduce his benefit by 2/3 and I would not qualify to receive his. How is this fair? I love how Congress just changes to rules whenever it fits their purpose. Did you know that CSRS retirees up to 1983 receive their full SS benefit without any WEP/GOP? I paid into SS for over 40 quarters pre and post retirement and will not, by the time I die, receive close to what I put in. This is not legal, moral, ethical to harass hard working Federal employees under a retirement plan invented by the Govt to steal the SS withholdings put in my people willing to work pre and post retirement to earn quarters. When will this be changed:REPORT COMMENTS

The WEP/GPO must be repealed. It is totally illegal in my opinion. I had requested it in (The Plain Writing Act) from Obama and not received it. This was not made to take money away from poor hard working people. If you pay into SS you should receive what you are entitled to, including spousal benefits. It should have nothing to do with any Government jobs which your paid into a different retirement plan. This is the United States of America, where everybody is supposed to be treated equal. This makes working for the Government a disgrace. It is no different then me saving for future by stuffing my mattress and the Government coming and taking it out. The WEP/GPO, in my opinion is like a Felon, convicted and still out on bail for thirty-five years. This Repeal should be acted upon "Now". As I previously mentioned, this law is in my opinion illegal. If you take money from what the people paid for, it is called stealing.REPORT COMMENTS

Because I worked 15 years paying into Social Security and 30 years as w public employee, my SS benefit will barely be $400.00 a month and when my husband dies, I will have no spousal benefit. This is not what we've worked all our lives for. Please make this fair..REPORT COMMENTS

I have worked part time in jobs that gave me earnings in both SSA and CALSTRS all of my adult life. I have paid into SSA and CALSTRS equally. Neither one of them alone is enough to live on in retirement. I just want what is due to me, what I have paid in nothing more. As the law is SSA can reduce my benefit just because I have worked and paid into CALSTRS even though that work was never full time. The California Community College system made sure my hours were part time so they didn't have to pay benefits. I have paid into Medicare equally. This needs to be looked at and amended for the reality we are living. Please make it fair.REPORT COMMENTS

WEP. A "Windfall" is if I win the lottery. Reducing my SS benefits using a manufactured formula is absolutely criminal. I paid into the system in good faith. Worked hard. Now SSA decides they don't want to pay me what I earned. Shameful!!REPORT COMMENTS
