Please repeal. This law has had very unfair unintended consequences. -

This has to be repealed now. It is such a miscarraige of justice to inflict this tax on people who have a right to the money they EARNED.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a retired teacher and even though I do not have a crystal ball, I am traumatized by the reality that if I am widowed I will receive very little of my spouse's social security benefit. We both made sacrifices to contribute into this account. I also have discouraged my daughter from teaching because of this unfairness. One should never work in the private sector and then retire in the public school sector. Yes, we do contribute to our school retirement, but many of us have contributed to social security and should get back what we put in or are entitled too. Also I got no reply from Senator Cornyn when I sent my letter. Brush off response ...check with you later. I do not think they even understood what this was about. Also no response from my new House member....none at all ...tea party dude.REPORT COMMENTS

This issue is a problem for a lot of the more elderly retired teachers and other public workers. I needs to go. Any idea of backpay needs to be dropped and just start it where we are now/or when it is enacted.REPORT COMMENTS

Here's yet another way for the government to penalize individuals for trying to do the right thing. I wonder if they are subject to this as well?REPORT COMMENTS

This is very unfair. Good people who come to Maine who have worked in other professions building up Social Security benefits are not entering teaching and other public professions because they will lose most or all of their Social Security benefits. That means we are losing good people who would otherwise enter public service.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a school nurse who has also worked under social security in the private sector throughout my working life. I spent over 22 years working in the private sector. They were my highest earning years. I entered education at the age of 46 in 2002. My wages were reduced to what I was earning in the early1990's I chose to purchase 5 years of service in CAL STRS at the cost of $66,000 so when I am 62, I can retire with 20 years of service. My retirement will be about $2000 a month. I always felt secure that I will have social Security. I have now found out that I will lose 40% of my social security benefits and will never be entitled to my husbands social security if he dies before me. I feel like I can't retire. This needs to be repealed now!REPORT COMMENTS

From age 16, I worked and paid into Social Security. As a young wife and mother, I held part time jobs and paid into Security Security. I entered the teaching profession at the age of 50. Where's the "windfall"? I have earned pensions in the systems to which I have contributed. Repeal the WEP and GPO!REPORT COMMENTS

I worked 14 years in the public sector prior to a 30 year teaching career. I deserve all of my Social Security, not part. If I had worked 40 years as a teacher, at least I would have a much better retirement. This WEP singles out public service employees.REPORT COMMENTS

I did not start teaching in public schools until I was in my early 40s. I have a right to all the money that was withheld from my paycheck or contributed by my employer up until that time. Depriving me of those funds is not fair. I would like to retire before I reach my 80s, but I really don't know if I'll be able to afford to with only my teacher's retirement as income.REPORT COMMENTS
