I worked in the private sector and earned all my credits for social security. I changed jobs and worked for the state of Louisiana at the charity hospital for 22 years. Gov. Jindal eliminated the state run hospitals in 2013. The outcome for me is that I cannot get my full state pension or my full amount of social security. This is just wrong!

Congress must act to repeal (not just partial) the WEP/GPO and protect earned and paid for Social Security benefits. These social security amounts have earned interest all this time it has been kept from employees that earned it.

I worked and paid Social Security. My Husband paid Social Security. We were married 20 years before I became a Teacher. Now that I am retired I cannot get the Social Security that we both worked for because I became a Teacher. Teachers should not be Penalized for helping our Educational System. This is not an Incentive for young people to become Educators. Also, The money we would get from Social Security would be spent in our States to encourage economic growth. It only makes perfect common sense to Eliminate the Reduction from retired workers. The Elimination is unfair. We need a reduction in this offset at least but all in all the Offset is just unfair.

Please support H.R. 1205 which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (a.k.a. WEP). Prior to working in public education, I worked and paid in to Social Security, earning enough quarters to count on those benefits in retirement. When I started working in public education, I was only permitted to pay into Texas Teacher's Retirement fund. Due to the unfair penalties imposed by WEP & GPO, my current Social Security benefit payment has been reduced to $90.00. My teacher retirement pension is only $900.00. If repealed, I feel that all public servants that have been penalized should also be reimbursed retroactively for all monies that we were denied. Please give H.R. 1205 your immediate, continued support.

I call on you for your support of H.R. 1205, which would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). The WEP unjustly deprives many public safety officers (and other public servants) of their fully earned benefits. Please make passage of the H.R. 1205 an urgent priority. H.R. 1205 would guarantee that our police officers and firefighters receive the benefits they earned while working another job and paying into Social Security. H.R. 1205 will provide benefits to all workers who have earned them. Congress should be helping retired public servants, not authorizing the Social Security Administration to penalize them for their dedicated service. I ask you to join as a co-sponsor of this legislation to help build momentum for its passage. I will be following the progress of this legislation and your actions to achieve the long-overdue repeal of the WEP.

This can't exist any longer. It should have never existed to begin with. The WEP/GPO must be "Eliminated and Repealed now. It should also be retroactive. "All Americans are supposed to be treated equal." This is supposed to be the United States of America. It all boils down to one topic. "Working for the Government is a disgrace." The WEP/GPO means one thing, "Stealing from the Americans"

April 27, 2017 Reggie B. from Detroit, MI writes: I am a retired Detroit Police Officer who has proudly served to protect the citizens of this City, who has been wounded in street battles serving for the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan School Board in Detroit for a combined service of over thirty years. My income was supplemented throughout my career with secondary jobs that I paid into Social Security and have now become eligible with 40 Quarters to collect Social Security Benefits, was unaware of the penalty of WEP (Windfall Elimination Provision Act of 1983). However, since the WEP offset has reduced my Social Security Benefits by 45%, we are also suffering with the loss of our medical insurance due to the bankruptcy of Detroit, plus a Michigan State Tax was added into our pension has caused our income to fall to the poverty level with the higher cost of living that we are now experiencing. The insurance coverage that we can afford is not affordable and is paid out of our pension check because we are now on a fixed income, was not agreed upon before separation from the Police Department. Many of us are experiencing higher co pays, that require out of pocket expenses and many of our prescribed prescriptions that are written as (DAW) are not covered by insurance companies because of the specialty insurance coverage that we lost was designed to cover the higher cost for medications for the type of injuries we received in our course of line of work. As we have gotten older so has our injuries, areas of pain that has stricken our bodies we now are suffering with, as illness prevents many of us from returning back to work, most of us who are now in our late sixties and seventies. I hope with faith and prayer that this H.R. Bill 1795: Social Security Fairness Act of 2013 is passed in legislature because it is unfair for all of the Public Servants who have served in the capacity of helping other people throughout their career, who have paid into the system, deserve the right to collect what is due us. Shame on the Political Politics if this bill does not pass. Thank you to the Co-sponsors Representatives who have initiated this Bill. Thank you to all that have served and sacrificed themselves in their chosen professions to help make this world a better place. God Bless You All, and to our Teachers too, because without them how do you think we got to where we are. Sincerely, Reggie Barnes Retired Detroit Police Officer

I am only asking for the benefit that I paid for in SS. If I had stopped working after earning my SS benefit, I would earn the entire amount that I was entitled to at age 66. Because I have worked for a public sector agency that does not allow us to participate in SS, I am being penalized. I just want what I would have gotten if I had stopped working in 1985 and waited 30+ years until I was 66 to receive.

Why should I be penalized for having a job where part of my salary is subject to SS withholding and part of it involves being an independent contractor and paying social security on those wages? I've paid in my Social Security. Why can't I get it? And if I can't have it, then let me pay it into my State retirement system. I've earned this benefit!

The WEP/GPO must be repealed now. This is the United States of America, where everybody is supposed to be treated equal. This makes working for the Government a disgrace. It has also been kept secret for more than 20 years. It's time to stop steeling from the American People who worked for the Government and private sector. We didn't work multiple jobs and pay multiple pensions to get robbed. We did it to survive. Meanwhile The Government gives money to other countries. Well it's time to take care of your own people first. We are not asking for something special, we want what we paid for. When you pay into two buckets, you should receive from two buckets. The problem is, the government stole from the national bucket. Stop robbing the Americans who supported you. The WEP/GPO, in my opinion is like a Felon, convicted and still out on bail for thirty-five years. This Repeal should be acted upon "Now".

Congress in order to pass WEP and GPO congress used a Supreme Court ruling the case was an dual citizenship criminal that was deported and collecting SS. They stopped his SS and the case went to Supreme Court. They also stopped payment of the wife that stayed in America They don't tell you the supreme court overturned the stopping of the wife's SS and she got her SS payments back because she was An American. Check it out.

The WEP/GPO must be repealed. This was not made to take money away from poor hard working people. If you pay into SS you should receive what you are entitled to, including spousal benefits. It should have nothing to do with any Government jobs which your paid into a different retirement plan. This is the United States of America, where everybody is supposed to be treated equal. This makes working for the Government a disgrace. It is no different then me saving for future by stuffing my mattress and the Government coming and taking it out.

Please repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision now! I am a teacher who started teaching after I had my 40 credits in the Social Security system. Now, my state is looking at taking our retirement system and turning it into a savings system. Totally unfair. I am at the point in my career where I am significantly disadvantaged if my retirement is turned into a savings plan and even more disadvantaged if I can't rely on Social Security. Please repeal the WEP now!
