While I was married and had kids with my exspouse he molested young girls and was convicted. I had filed divorce and for supervised custody. My son was 5 and my daughter 3. Now years later I am still fighting custody. He went from no custody time to supervised to unsupervised and currently it's now 50/50 custody. Our current judge automatically gives 50/50 to parents once the child reached the age of 12, regardless of past history. In the State of PA once a person is off parole for sex offense/s the person gains their parental rights back. This is NOT in the best interest of our children.

I personally agree sex offenders should be punished. But what bothers me is a older man abusing a young child. He has issues and should be locked up in doom with gay men. But sometime I think other older kids look grown, if they tell you they are 18 or 19 and they look like that age but come to find out she or he lied! I think in some examples like that need to not be locked up, heck might have been just couple times same person . I think if ones have to go to jail then the one that lied should to!!!i am a mother of three grown daughters, one God giving beautiful grandchild. Life is wonderful now. Just make sure if you find out about who would and or is going that and see what happen

I have experienced the same situation. My ex husband molested my oldest and financially ruined me in divorce and after. He met some woman and I took him to court to get railroaded. Basically abused by the court. I had a panic attack because I couldn't afford an attorney and assistant court commissioner Pruhs gave sole custody of our son to this abusive man. They never took my 35 pages of contempts. My life is ruined by this man. I'm being punished for what he did to me and my kids. I got sued for the house he was court ordered to pay right after I had just graduated from an expensive college and wondered why I never got responses from all the hundreds of applications and went on ccap and saw I was sued for that house. 55,000 in student loans for bad reputation and 150,000 for the house. Now I suffer from extreme panic attacks and now I lost my precious gardening son to a hunting predator. I'm completely devastated. Why did I survive 4th stage cancer right before I met him? I survived cancer to go thru a life long of hell and misery!? I'm so sad I wish there was help for these kind of people! And he claims he's a devote Catholic. I just pray that God will protect us suffering thru these horrible crimes. I will pray for you too! Big hug to you! I feel your pain! May God protect our children in the world!

The idea that an offender won't harm another child is not one I'm willing to condone. The what if's are just too high and it's unreasonable to think that an offender is equipped at any point in his or her life to resist the temptation of a young one in his/her custody. Why would you tempt fate and the innocent life of a child? We put dogs down for single time attacks; they don't get second chances to prove they can do what it takes to be nice. So why then would we, intelligent individuals, take the chance with our children's lives that the offender can change? Dogs are raised to be mean, bite, be aggressive. People are raised to be good people (in most cases) and if not, they still know right and wrong yet still make choices that are wrong or harmful to others. Offenders are registered for a reason. They're put on a list for a reason. Our children don't get a voice; we must stand up for their rights, they're innocence, they're life. Offenders don't deserve the right to be trusted with our children. If a dog doesn't get a second chance, neither should an offender. They knew from the beginning not to "bite".

I'm going thru the same situation with my three children in Chattanooga TN. The father who is a two time convicted violent sex offender was granted full custody without my knowledge...no letter or nothing. His offences involved minor children in both incidents and they still found it ok to let them reside with him . To top it off my oldest isn't even biologically his!!! I pray that they make tougher laws because he's giving me a hard time trying to get them back.

I never knew that so much of this "abuse by the system" was happening when I was fighting this issue! My heart cries for other children and parents/guardians going through this nightmare that makes no sense at all! I pray that someone in power with the system will step up for these innocent children and see that they are protected! "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

I don't think registered sex offender should have rights to any child. Even if it is there own. I know a sex offender and he is drunk and makes moves on young girls women when he is drunk. And it scares me to know he has a child on the way. His girlfriend already lost 4 daughters to the state for having the girls around him. So now she expecting her 5th one by this man. And I don't think he should be allowed around the baby. Please do something

My Wife and I are foster parents and have been for a long time. We have seen first hand how the system that is supposed to protect children fail time and time again. We were in the process of foster adopting a little girl that we had from birth. Mom was a meth addict and this was her 5th child that went into the system. Father was a low life and convicted sex offender of a minor. We had her for 22 months and the system gave her back to her bio dad. Since we thought we were going to be able to adopt her we were shocked that they were allowing this man to go through all the hoops to get custody of his 22 month old girl. Despite our objections and concerns she was returned to him. 4 years later we find out that he had been put in jail again but this time for sexually molesting his daughter (5 yrs old at the time).Needless to say our hearts were broken for a second time as we were not able to protect her from him and his evil actions. We are now moving to adopt her again and his rights have finally been terminated but he is still allowed to appeal the decision which may prolong the adoption process. I am angry that he was able to get her back and then allowed to abuse her. I hope that more people will petition the government to change these laws and make it so any sex offender never gets custody of their children again.

I was with my daughters father for 2 years and I didn't know he molested 3 kids including his own son when I was with him but when I left him, that's when I learned my daughters father is a child molester and I suspect he did the same to my son. I seriously didn't know but I left him that's when the truth came out. He went to prison for 6 years and I feel he should have stayed in prison. I'm not with my daughters father and if I was with him, I would have lost my two kids back in 1999 but I left him before that ever took place. That took place about 16 years ago and my daughter is 17 and she is happy girl. My daughter doesn't want to know her real dad because of what he did. I think parents should stand up for their kids and not let these child molesters get their kids and have their rights be taken away. I would love to have my daughters fathers rights be taken away from him because of his record as a child molester. These men who commit crimes like this should have their rights be taken away and not have custody over their child or children. Thank you

Sick of criminal rights! Protect our children from a parent who is a convicted child sex offender and stop awarding them custody. My ex is a convicted child sex offender trying to get custody of my son. He did less time than a drug user or a Person with DUI's, ridiculous! Keep them off the streets and away from kids, locked up where they belong!

Thank you all for your views and support regarding the subject of Registered Child Sex Offenders and Custody. I have suffered years of unbelievably cruel ridicule, slander, vilification/character assassination by the Family Court System as I only asked for protection for my young child from being alone with his Registered Child Sex Offender father. I could not believe that a system that was supposed to be in place to protect the innocent only seemed intent on protecting the "rights" of a man who had committed the hideous crime of having sex with an innocent minor child! As I still check in on this petition after years of fighting for what is right, I thank God that others, YOU, are speaking up also for our innocent children who can't protect themselves! I pray for God's protection over our children and for the loving parents/guardians who fight for their right to live their lives as God intended...safe and free! All I can say to parents who are still fighting this battle is NEVER GIVE UP ON THE CHILDREN. They are God's most precious gifts and they need and deserve protection. Thank you all for your continued support!

My child's father was convicted of 2 felony counts of lewd and lacivious child molestion of a 12 & 14 year old that belong to his now ex girlfriend. I don't want him to have any contact with my child. I think any crime like this committed against a child regardless of who the child belongs to, the parental rights of the convicted should be revoked automatically. Our children need to be protected.

Even if courts refuse custody or visitation sex offenders can make a parent's life hell by repeatedly suing for custody. No child should have to live with the fear that a court will decide that they should see their rapist.
