I can no longer afford my insulin medication. One week it was $15, the next over $100.

My son has type 1 diabetic since 6 yr and is now 16 yr and the cost is ridiculous. I have insurance now but what is going on with unlimited cost raising. Something needs to be done.

Type 1 diabetics don't have a choice to go without insulin. My husband has lived with Type 1 diabetes since the age of six, he is now 66 years old. He has worked hard along with his mother when he was a child to do what was right for his health. He didn't ask to be a diabetic, he did nothing to cause this disease that came his way. He used to pay $10 a bottle for U100NPH. Look at the prices now! Congress needs to help.

Here is another example of pharmaceutical companies gouging patients for the almighty dollar. Were you elected to protect people or to look the other way?

my sister is type 1 diabetic. She is insulin dependent. the cheap alternatives are poor substitutes to the longer lasting insulins. For years she has not even been qualified to have insurance and now she has to pay these prices for a life saving drug!!! These pharmaceutical companies are price gouging people over medicines that are required for survival! Will Congress put a stop to this!

Call the House Oversight Committee, and ask them to investigate the rising price of insulin, just as they investigated the rising price of Epi-Pens. The House Oversight Committee to call in Washington, DC for the Democrats is 202-225-5051, and for the Republicans is 202-225-5074.

choosing between health and money is a ridiculous argument. Ceo's of these companies quote saying they are justified in there increases. They never mention they make millions of dollars a year and continue to produce massive profits. It is time for a change.

People will develop many complications if they do not have insulin at a reasonable cost. This will result in higher medical costs and deaths.

I'm a school teacher with a 14 yo Type 1 Diabetic. The cost of her meds are at least a car payment. If she doesn't have insulin she will DIE. I shouldn't have to be choosing to keep my daughter alive over buying groceries for my family. As a special education teacher I see children on Medicaid all the time for their disabilities that aren't life threatening and it doesn't matter what the income of the parents are. T1D is also a disability.....without insulin my child will die. Please help the average hard working citizens of America in taking care of their children!

Many diabetics who need insulin to live can no longer afford it, and some are even rationing what they have until they can afford to buy more. That's an extremely dangerous situation. Insulin today costs hundreds of dollars per bottle, and it's too expensive for many people to buy to try to stay alive. It shouldn't be this way, especially when people in Canada and Mexico are paying far less for the exact same insulin that is being sold in the U.S.

Several people have mentioned the very high cost of blood testing strips. The cheapest I've found are sold at Wal-Mart - the ReliOn Prime blood testing strips. Wal-Mart sells 50 strips for $9.00, or 100 strips for $17.88. The meter costs $9.00. I hope this information helps someone. https://www.walmart.com/ip/ReliOn-Prime-Blood-Glucose-Monitoring-System-Blue/20752266 Wal-Mart also sells ReliOn human insulin - Regular, NPH, and 70/30. Last I knew, they were charging $24.88 per vial of that type of insulin, and in some states it's available without a prescription. These older insulins might work for some. Novo-Nordisk makes the ReliOn insulins sold at Wal-Mart. See http://www.bootcampforbetics.org/blog/when-you-cant-afford-the-insulin-you-need-in-order-to-survive

My mother was very health-oriented her whole life. She and my dad raised 8 children by growing their own (organic) food and making healthy meals from scratch. Even so, she developed type II diabetes in her early 50s as a young widow. Her father had it before her. She was able to maintain good blood sugar control without insulin for many years by eating right and exercising. Then, in her early 70s, her health slowly got worse due to a congenital heart condition, and she needed to start using insulin with each meal. Now Big Pharma's greed is making it impossible for many people with diabetes to afford to buy insulin. How much money is enough to satisfy these pharmaceutical companies? Having diabetes is already a very challenging way to live. Can't we give people with diabetes one less thing to worry about.....being able to afford this life-sustaining hormone? One more thing: Our beloved black lab is 14 years and 9 months old. She has had diabetes for 2-1/2 years. We give her 23 units of Novalin N twice a day with meals and she has done well. We're so grateful that we can afford this insulin through WalMart, whose prices for insulin are way, way below pharmacies in our area.

As a Type I diabetic for nearly 55 years, I was told years ago by my mother that in the early 1960's, she could go into a drug store and, without prescription drug coverage, buy a bottle of animal insulin to keep me alive for 89 cents! That was probably Protamine Zinc insulin at that time. Talk about price gouging by pharmaceutical companies today! I know of a Type I diabetic who couldn't afford Lantus and Humalog and was forced to buy Wal-Mart's human insulin for $25 per bottle, just to stay alive. That won't work for everyone, but it's a more affordable way to get an older insulin if you're desperate. Unfortunately, the greed of pharmaceutical companies are making more and more diabetics desperate. We need the FDA to allow generic insulin to be made. They were supposed to do that years ago. These exorbitant insulin prices also raise the cost for taxpayers who pay for insulin under Medicaid and Medicare. Get these prices under control!

My son requires insulin to stay alive. As a teen boy, he requires 10 vials every 3 months. I considered the cost for his insulin incredibly expensive when he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes over 10 years ago, but the prices have increased astronomically since then. This isn't an optional drug- it is required for survival. There are only a couple of drug companies that make fast acting insulin, and the rate at which the prices have increased are questionable. Unfortunately, my son only has one option because the other insulin became ineffective for him. We have no choice but one (or two for others), so they can increase prices to whatever they wish because the patient has no other alternative. It seems criminal.

I understand the cost of insulin and the selling of it due to the amount it takes to make. However, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 24 years. I am 28 now. I am livid with the cost to buy insulin and I could buy the brands that were made years ago at walmart for less but they do not work well for my body as the high-end insulin that my doctor recommends I use for my health. With insurance the cost of my insulin for a 3 month supply is approx. $700. I cant afford that and its not fair that because of this medical condition, that I had no cause of, I am stuck paying an arm and a leg to keep myself alive because there is no generic unlike other medical conditions. So diabetics have to suffer. It is not right nor fair to pay so much because there are no options for a generic and to keep myself healthy and alive I cant get the cheap stuff at Wal-Mart. It is time to start making a difference in the lives of diabetics.

My mother is dying from diabetes because she would refuse insulin because she could not afford it on social security and with medicare insurance. Pharma companies are making our country in debt while they receive record profits. Make big pharma lower the prices and stop stealing our tax dollars.

I am not diabetic, but know that so many people are. There should be a law against this price gouging for medications that now people won't be able to afford, so I guess the companies just figure, oh, they will just die. This is outrageous and something needs to be done about it. If just one company would not raise the price, they would make a fortune! What has this world come to, how do these people sleep at night. Yes, I agree with the above comment, it is time for someone to put a stop to this.

My wife takea three different types of insulin a day. The cost is absurd! It's time for our government to step in and challenge the pharmaceutical companies on their pricing. They are getting rich while Americans must choose over getting insulin or dying. Does anyone care? No it's all about big profits and the one percent. This must stop!
