Recently I read of how using Metformin off-label for Type 1 diabetics helps us to lower our insulin needs, improve blood sugars, lose weight, and even protect our hearts. I asked my doctor to let me try that, and my insulin needs have dropped by about 12%, with better blood sugar results. My pharmacist says that many more doctors are now prescribing Metformin (an inexpensive drug) to Type 1 diabetics. Perhaps this might help adult Type 1 diabetics lower their insulin requirements. With the price of insulin being so criminally high, this might help someone.

Type 1 for 41 years with private health insurance. I work in order to buy insulin and the blood sugar monitor device necessary to keep me alive. Quit with the propaganda. I suspect the campaign contributions politicians receive from big pharmaceuticals far exceed the cost for the diabetic to stay alive. Insulin isn't a luxury.

I'm a mom that has two sons that have type 1 diabetes. My first got it when he was 16 and the 2nd got it at 20. I've seen them really struggle with having to pay for their insulin every 3-4weeks even though they both have insurance it's still so costly not only that they are both on the pump which they have to buy supplies for that to and that's not cheap either. Everyday I worry that they can't afford their insulin or supplies. They need it or they'll die . This goes for all of those who have this terrible disease. Please do something for them all..

I have had to go to the emergency room because I didnt have money for insulin and went into DKA.. This needs to happen. I'm 23 years old, there are kids out there whose families are in my boat, but they're 3, or 4, or 8. They don't deserve this.

I've used humalog for 16 of the 18 years I've been type 1 diabetic. I will not go back because insulin manufacturers see our lives as an opportunity for profit.

My daughter & son-in-law are paying $18,000.oo to have insurance & $6,500.00 individual deductible. After that, the insurance will pay 100%. They can't afford insulin for my Grandson. I feel the death squad is working trying to make sure only the healthy survive. At the age of 2.5 years old, my grandson didn't do anything to make his pancreas stop working. We need the price of insulin to be reduced.

No one should have to risk death because of costs. Insulin is one of the medicine that should be reduced in price.

The greed of the manufacturers is beyond measure, and must be stopped. What justification do they have for the brutality of their pricing increases? The number of new Type 2 diabetics increases annually, and many of these come to need insulin as well, which means an even bigger market for manufacturers. I am a Type 1 diabetic and have been since 1985. Fast approaching senior-dom, I am wondering how I will be able to afford this stuff in the future, if there is no control on the pharmaceutical companies' raise in prices. Their high pricing will likely, essentially amount to murder.
