It states in there that the pro board has her hands tied I don't believe so as I found out with my son's cell mate he's been incarcerated for 31 years going on 32 for a crime that he committed by accident when he was a teenager. My son made a horrible mistake when he hurt a friend of his unknowingly but by the way the courts student and the media they crucified him and send him to 10 years and his cellmate was sentenced to life and his cellmate has done everything in the world to change and to prove he has changed . But because someone in the Senate and someone on the pro board has blocked his ever opportunity to be released from prison and if you're saying the proof pro boards hands are tied you need to look into that case deeply into that case because there was unfair justice in that case as well as in my sons case .there is a website that you can read that proves this case was unfair and unjust thank you

My husband is serving a sentence of 366 days in prison for marking 5 boxes that had 2 different meanings on 5 ATF forms. He made zero money on the transactions and there was no one harmed in anyway, but now he has 5 felonies to his otherwise spotless good name. It was simply a clerical misunderstanding on his part of the form. He never had so much as a driving ticket on his record, and has always been a productive law abiding citizen all his life diligently supporting law enforcement secured networks. He was beaten down financially and emotionally, and after 5 years of fighting these charges, (the govt has endless resources) one mistrial, one conviction, he accepted a "plea" deal for a year and a day incarceration in lieu of up to 5 years, just to end it. He is now spending his well earned retirement in a federal prison, losing his right to vote, freedom, and his life long passion hunting. He estimates 50% of the folks that are there are first time offenders, and most if not all of them were productive citizens with businesses, jobs and families. There are Construction workers, business owners, Doctors, pharmacists, etc. Some of these are highly educated folks that are now wasting their life in prison, cleaning toilets and sucking tax dollars. Now our federal tax dollars are being spent on caging them like animals, with poor health and dental care. My husband has been told to "buck it up" by the nurse when he has gone into the medical facility for help with his swollen knees/legs from his double knee replacement done several years ago (btw not at the expense of the federal gov), and has a heart condition. There have been inmates that have died in the facility because they were told to "buck it up" and wait until the dr comes in on Wednesday, which is only once a week for a very short time, for a facility that is supporting about 1500 inmates. I am fearful for my husband who is in his late 60s, for lack of medical attention. Please help send him home, he is not a threat to society.

As a mother of a son that took another persons life as a juvenile, I do understand that a person has to take responsibility for thier actions. What I disagree with is how the system does not reconize that these kids are still kids and the brain is still developing. They do not realize the consequences. We need to be rehabilitating or at least be trying to see if the change in our prison system works. If nothing changes nothing changes. Every person in this world as thought to thierselves at least once. I've learned from my mistake no matter what it might be (like how to ride a bike without falling off) give me a chance to show myself that I learned and I changed. Every case should be looked at differently and the parole board should be allowed to do thier job.

These Men need to be out with their friends and family. They sit in prison feeling worthless. Caged up like animals They sit there and everyday and think about the past. Give them the chance to do better. Let them be the parent, sister, mother, father etc.. that God intentioned for them to be.

My husband has been incarated since year 2000 he was sentenced 25 yrs for armed robbery (first time offender) fell under the Bill Clinton 85% mandatory sentencing law. So far he has served 18 yrs and is currently in North East Correctional Center in Bowling Green Missouri and holds an elite honor status. He tutors inmates with their GED classes.all kinds of glasses and now he's in the honor house. I truly pray that the Missouri follow other states to eliminate the 85% mandatory sentencing law. I'm also praying once this bill has been eliminated that every inmate who has served 50% of their sentence should be released immediately providing they have truly changed based upon their prison conduct i.e. honor status, good behavior, etc... and most importantly has successfully completed all of the mandated classes on being reformed. Being incarcerated that long just makes some inmates more of a criminal because when its time for them to be released after spending over half of their lives behind bars (especially after making one stupid mistake) it is hard for them to adjust to society. By releasing inmates earlier than their 85% mandatory sentence date will allow them the opportunity to raise their children and began living their life as a has productive citizen. I've been hearing for several years that several laws (HB657 and HB659) has been submitted before the Senate and was rejected. Now there's rumors that this year 2017 the Missiouri will fall in pursuit as other states has already done by eliminating this horrible sentencing law I hope that the rumors are true. Because everyone deserves a second chance with the exception of child molesters and murders. Let's us all pray that the laws change.

I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE! I WAS RAILROADED BY THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND DURING MY 3 YEARS OF INCARCERATION, I SEEN AND LEARNED A LOT. I ACTUALLY SLEPT IN CELLS WITH MURDERERS. "JUDGE YE NOT, THAT YOU NOT BE JUDGED" I DO THINK THAT FIRST TIME OFFENDERS, SHOULD BE GRANTED A SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE, GIVEN THEY PASS ALL EQIVALENT, NECESSARY PROGRAMS TO LEAD A PRODUCTIVE LIFESTYLE. NOT TO MENTION, GAIN THEIR FAMILIES BACK TOGETHER. QUESTION: "HOW CAN WE DO THIS?"

My husband is in licking prison doing 15 years. He has never been in trouble before and I hope and pray that they change the 85% law. He works in the kitchen doing his GED taking all kinds of glasses and now he's in the honor house. He's a wonderful husband, father of two kids and a wonderful son. I think they should review cases of these offenders. Being incarcerated that long just makes them more of a criminal when they could be a productive citizen living life. I heard that laws are changing the first of the year. I hope that's true. Everyone deserves a second chance. Lets all pray that the laws change.

My brother has been in licking mo prison since he was 17 yrs old. He made a huge mistake as a kid who ran away from an abusive home and got mixed up with the wrong crowd.. he is a good person who made that choice and has live with the consequences ever since but he deserves to have a life and children. I know he would be a good citizen again if given the opportunity he's now 32 and has never seen the parole board praying that this year he'll find some good news.

My son is a first time offender, not all his fault, he has lost 2 years with his children, he has been an exemplenary prisoner, he wants nothing more than to come home and start his life again. They all deserve a second chance to prove themselves before time robs them of all hope and they just give up.

Everyone deserves a second chance especially when it is unintentional or when someone tries to protect their family through self defense against someone that is combative, and under the influence of drugs with a weapon in use. The vengeance of execution to destroy him and his baby brother over a ball game will have served 15 yrs in prison (Jan 2017). No record ever! first time felon slapped with 2nd degree murder! They were oblivious to the evidence!! Free Ryan Troop!

I know someone that is in prison and has been denied a release and he has been there for 31 years and every time he goes before the board they do a four year set back. He has done everything in his power followed everyone of the guidelines and rules to be able to get a release and they will not give it to him! And I've been told that there is friends of the family that are on the pro board and in the Senate that keep him behind bars he was supposed to do you live what your definition of life now ? He committed it when he was 18 years old and his wife has to suffer right along with him and the pro board has their hands tied not what I've read

It's sad! I know they knew they messed up tremendously. All first time offenders deserve a SECOND CHANCE. We are not God. We All Mess up, some worse than others. Would u lock up your 10 yr old for breaking that $100 plate you told them not to touch? The Bible says...u break one commandment you've broken them all....James 2:10

Everyone deserves that second chance putting people away from many years can be very harsh especially when some of the inmates are getting a very long time for a little crime, it's very unfair federal inmates only have two options for early release RDAP (which rules are so strict barely any gets accepted) and good time.....yet state prisoners who do worse crimes then some federal inmates can get out after 2 years for even worse crimes.
