As a citizen of this country, it is not only my right to question my leaders, it is my responsibility. Public comment/appeals should continue to be allowed regarding ANY marine activities. I have not elected any officials in the NOAA, they were appointed without my say - the NOAA should not have exclusive right to make decisions regarding animals or ocean use without public input!Sep 19th, 2013Someone from Greenville, SC writes:
I urge you to reconsider the take of any marine mammals. Due to shipping lanes, over fishing, and by-catch they have a hard enough plight as it it. Please keep these comment periods open to the public. To take away the public comment would be to take away the voice for mammals. Also, I strongly oppose any request for sonar testing by our military. There is no reason that the military should be testing weapons in our oceans. Although human lives are not at stake, our mammal lives are still valuable. One cannot put a price tag on the cost of life whether it be human or non-human. These types of testing could devastate whale and dolphin pods, which create jobs and money toward our economy through eco-tourism. This would damage our ocean ecosystems also, and without a healthy ocean we will all be in peril. The United States should be a leader in conservation, not destruction. Please choose to do the right thing and represent the people of this country.REPORT COMMENTS
