Petition for the the U.S. to aid in the rescue and recovery of Victims alive or deceased at the Carribean Market & elsewhere

This petition is also for all victims of the earthquake to ask for help locating and identifying bodies and returning their bodies to their respective families for proper burial

We,the families and friends of the Carribean Supermarket survivors of the Haiti earthquake, urge you to continue rescue efforts at the Carribean Supermarket beyond Jan. 25. Rescue efforts must continue until all the survivors are accounted for.

According to, Vincent Gawronski, Birmingham-Southern College political science professor and an expert on disasters and disaster response, "A victim thatis positioned in an air pocket within a building where he was sheltered by a wall, can help extend their survival time. In general, he says, a person can survive for four to six weeks without food. This proves the chance of survival in the carribean market is much greater than anywhere else because the victims have access to food. Many of the people who have been rescued survived on food they were eating that was buried with them inside the market. Many rescuers have argued because it was a pancake collapse there are no air pockets. There are air pockets and more than 60 survivors have been reported trapped in the rubble using cell phones as their only hope for survival days after the quake which means they were recieving air.

Rescued survivors stated in on camera interviews there were others still alive inside the market. One victim, Adolpho Prato sent numeous messages he was alive and was located near the freezers. This means he was in an open space to be able to see the freezers and this means he has an air pocket and was near food. There are also others texting such as Regine Madhere. This message was never delivered to the rescue teams. Also, an eyewitness Adolpho's friend Jeff Moussa left the market just seconds before the earthquake struck with Adolpho's daughter Isadora. They survived. He stated that Adolpho was stuck inside in an on camera interview with CNN.

We need help getting rescue workers and heavy equipment to this site and more of a coordinated effort. The family of Adolpho Prato stated that many rescue teams offered assistance at the site but were turned away due to lack of coordination and cooperation with each other. One of the most elite rescue teams in the world the Topos were also turned away when they specifically went to the site to rescue Adolpho Prato. The head in charge of the Topos rescue operation told the Prato family his team was sent away and their help was not needed .Topos left the carribean market site and continued on their quest and continued to make life saving rescues as close as yesterday January 25, 2010. Other teams argued with the Florida rescue teams to continue digging when the Florida teams wanted to give up. After the Florida teams stated their was no alive in the building and left other rescue teams pulled 3 more bodies alive out of the buildings. Now they are bulldozing building leaving victims who may still be alive defenseless. This is also documented on news agency websites. While we greatley appreciate the time and effort that was put into the site already we are asking for more time at the carribean market and for the teams to return. We must turn this around and make things right. We cannot turn a blind eye to these people. They are sitting there counting on us praying to be saved. Although, the United Nations and Rene Preval maybe have given up on these people but we cannot turn our backs on people who are trapped and have no voice. We are their voice. Please send heavy search equipment, rescue dogs, and rescue teams to this site immediatley. There is no time for bureacracy. You must act quickly. A demolision team is already on site.

Also, we are asking for your help assure the deceased are being given to the Haitian authorities and then taken to the distribution location and if can be identified taken to a central area to hold for a number of days until their families are notified. This is not just for the victims of the market but for all victims of the disaster in Haiti. These victims deserve respect. They need to be photographed. Every effort should be made to identify the victims and notify the family to recover their relative or friends bodies. Makeshift morgues are in place right now in haiti. They need to be used. These victims should not be disrepected and dumped in mass graves.
