This is very unfair, why should someone how purchased a home in 2008, which was a way to try to help boost the economy be punished. Also what makes the people who purchased their home in 2009 or after better than those that bought their home in 2008, why are they rewarded for purchasing a home when we are punished.REPORT COMMENTS

I totally agree. I purchased my home in July of 2008 and have been repaying the $7,500.00 first-time home buyers tax credit while first-time buyers 6 months after me got a larger credit of $8,000 that they don't have to pay back? This is unfair to all first-time home buyers in 2008!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I lived in my home for 8 years post credit. I moved primarily for plumbing concerns and the risk of major repairs/expense should things have gone wrong (as they were starting to). This being said, plus the credit the following year being $500 more and NOT having to be repaid, it seems only fair that the 2008 credits should not have to be paid back.REPORT COMMENTS

I too am stuck with this "so called, credit," and purchased August of 2008! How is this even fair? Receiving a credit of $7500.00 is just a stated amount the government says they give you, however usually credits, or write offs are only a percentage of an amount, yet we are paying back an actual dollar amount with dollars! Something seriously needs to be done. Any purchase after 2008 does not have to repay??? Had I'd have known, I would have not taken this so called credit at all.REPORT COMMENTS

This is the "American way". I purchased my first home in May 2008. Two years later I am paying $500.00 a year, so that all those who purchased EIGHT MONTHS LATER can have there credit for FREE. I want to move, but now I have to figure in closing costs, realtor fees, AND...lump sum payback of home buyer credit balance. Thank you Uncle Sam...great idea.REPORT COMMENTS

This repayment makes it very difficult to sell a home and move to a larger home to fill an expanding family, which is why many people are stuck in starter homes.REPORT COMMENTS

This is totally unfair. I have always paid my bills on time and some of them paid of early. I took advantage of the first time homebuyers credit and actually saw it as a loan that would have to be paid back. But when I saw that people bought their home the following year and do not have to pay it back, I thought that was very unfair to those of us who have to. Is there any reasoning as to why I must pay and they are off the hook? Don't get me wrong - at the time I needed the money and i was very happy to take advantage of the interest-free loan, but after the following groups got the free credit it just doesn't seem very fair that they are so 'lucky' while I have to carry the burden of my repayment.REPORT COMMENTS

Hello. I am not sure If it is too late to join in on this petition, but I wanted to try anyway. I have been praying and searching for the right contact person to submit this too, so I hope it is you. My husband and I were so excited to be purchasing our first home as a married couple in 2008. When we heard that their was gonna be a $7500 credit available, we were even more excited. This would be a much needed Blessing in helping us start our lives together. So, we quickly agreed to the terms to pay back the credit over the course of 15 years at $500 a year. Then the following year, the same credit was offered to 2009 home buyers without the requirement to pay back the credit. It felt like a slap in the face. Why were we required to pay it back only for it to be given freely to the next year owners. Had we known that, then of course we would have waited another year. Nontheless, we have been faithful to pay our portion every year since. There has been a lot to change since 2008. We now have a Young daughter, I was out of work for a period of time, we aquired many medical expenses, and we have found ourselves in financial stress. I am sure many other families have also found themselves in similar situations. I am not only asking for my own family, but I am asking for others as well. Will you please reconsider lifting the requirement to pay back the credit from 2008 ? It has already been several years, so can this year be the start to some financial freedom for myself and the other families this has effected. Please find it in your hearts to make the change. Thank You Sincerely, April JonesREPORT COMMENTS

2008 was a riskier time to purchase when job loss was greater and home finance rates were highest. It simply is not right that the same benefit was not offered in 2008 as 2009 to not have to repay the loan. I have worked the same nonprofit job with no wage increase since I purchased my home yet taxes, insurane, all costs of living continues to increase. I need help and the cancelation of this loan would be a fair and great help.REPORT COMMENTS
