Please eliminate the requirement that the 2008 tax credit must be repaid. Congress it is not fair that in 2009 First Home Buyers received an extra $500 tax credit than the 2008 Home buyers and they do not have pay anything back. At 500 per year counting this year we have paid $3000 leaving $4,500. That means 2009 tax credit recipients have received $4500 more than those from 2008. Again please eliminate the requirement that the 2008 tax credit must be repaid.

Repayment for 2008 is unfair, this should have been amended when the next years guidelines changed to no annual repayment..

This tax credit repayment is SO unfair in light of the folks who got a FREE credit the following year.

This was an absolute bait and switch by the government. I bought a home with my now ex-wife in August of 2008. We accepted the "tax-credit" of $7,500 thinking it could be good for first time buyers to get their new home in order. I was not completely satisfied with paying the money back, because owing the IRS always makes me uneasy. Then a co-worker of mine, whose overall house hold income was nearly double my family bought a home in late January 2009 and got $8,000 for free. In what world is this fair.

My wife and I got married this year and bought a new house together in January, but we both sold our previous homes the year prior that we each had purchased in 2008 under the original provisions of the incentive. For our 2015 taxes we both had to payback $5,000 remaining on the $7,500 credit, EACH, for a total of $10,000. What a great wedding present from Uncle Sam and Aunt Pelosi that was. Current law only gives us two years from the date we paid to file an amendment. Pelosi as then Speaker amended the revision to be retroactive, but she only went retro to January 1, 2009. Scandalous. Some people shouldn't be anywhere near pulling the levers of making law.

Why is this considered an interest free "loan" if upon amending my 2008 and 2009 returns to claim the credit I am paid interest when I did not originally claim it on my 2008 original return?

Just sold my house, still owe 4500 on the repay plan and all of my profits now have to repay the credit. If I would have bought my house a year later, I wouldn't have to repay. This is not right.

this just does not make any sense. had i known i could have bought my new home for less money in January and still would have been able to collect the 8000 and not have to repay it. i am no rocket scientist but this is extremely unfair to everyone who received the 7500 that has to be paid back. this needs to be reversed and REVERSED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not fair. I purchased my house in August 2008 and my brother in law purchased his in Jan 2009. I'm still paying back that 7,500. He never has to pay his back. How is this fair?

I agree that since the 2009 credit does not have to be repaid, that the 2008 credit should match this same plan. I purchased in 2008 and have lived in my condo up until May of 2016. I am renting to a family member since I cannot sell my condo as I am still underwater. I now have read that the remaining balance of the $7500 credit will become taxable this year since I no longer am the primary resident of the home. Needs to change!
