The waters of loss are treacherous, families need time to grieve- this petition gives them options in their time of great despair. New Life as well as Death greatly impact a family families need the time to get their feet back under themselves. -

Until you experience a tragedy, you don't realize how long the grieving process takes. Healing is not achieved after 3-4 days of crying. When a child dies, a piece of the parent was just ripped away and the wound is raw for many months. A new person is being formed around the wound and it takes time before clear, logical thinking is possible again. At least 6 weeks should be given as is given to heal from childbirth.REPORT COMMENTS

I can only say this, When my daughter past away 5 1/2 years ago. The company I worked for, more then 7 yrs.. Decided to charge my vacation time. At the same time they owed me back moneys.Well needless to say, that shortly there after. we parted ways.maybe if the Farley Kluger amendment was in affect things might have been different. Hopefully if this gets past newly grieving parents will get the much needed time necessary to walk forward effectively.REPORT COMMENTS

Loss and grief have such detrimental effects on health. Immediate and long term. We compartmentalize our grief and place such high values on returning to normalcy following the loss of a child or loved one. This does not seem normal to me. It has been not even one year since the death of our son and still grief bubbles up in my day to day lift. His death was not a pleasant one and will of course leave a legacy of grief for us as parents and for his siblings as well.REPORT COMMENTS

There is no greater loss; no greater pain that a human being can endure than the death of their child. It violates the natural order of things.REPORT COMMENTS

When my husband and I lost our son, it was the most horrendous event in our lives. Automatic time off work would have been beneficial in helping to process the magnitude of what had happened.REPORT COMMENTS

I also strongly support this amendment. I lost a child two years ago and one needs assistance in the system to survive. A death of a child needs to be a protected reason to qualify for the benefits set forth in the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993.REPORT COMMENTS

Eleven years ago, my husband had to travel an hour each way, three days a week because his company was generous enough to allow him to work only three days a week during the eight months our four year old fought for his life. He was able to do the same for a couple weeks after we lost him. I returned to work after 12 weeks and although it was the best thing for me at the time, I can't imagine having gone back any sooner. I want to thank my husband for his courage and bravery and I am so sorry he had to go to work facing the worst time in our lives. It became a daily phrase to each other, we're between a rock and a hard place.REPORT COMMENTS

This is the worst loss and parents help the support and help of those they work for. It takes time to be able to resume your life as you are different after the death of your child. You are taking time to incorporate this horrendous loss into your life.REPORT COMMENTS

As a bereaved parent I can tell you that there is no greater pain a person can endure than the death of a child. My husband, who has a physically dangerous job requiring careful attention to detail, had to go back to work when he was not ready after the loss of our son. I hope that you will help take this pressure off of other bereaved parents in the future.REPORT COMMENTS
