My grandson, Adin, died on Thanksgiving Eve, 2008. He was only 21months old and the fire in the heart of many that knew him. I cannot imagine the pain my daughter is still going through as are the rest of parents who have lost their child(ren). I had to use vacation time, after the obligatory 3 days funeral leave, that is my employer's policy. I needed the time off to make funeral arrangements and call the family together. Who else was going to do this? My daughter? She was only 23 years old and completely lost at the time. I urge everyone to fight for the right to time off from a job for extenuating circumstances. I am sure if a tragedy should strike an executive officer (I do not wish any ill will), there would be no question regarding time off!Feb 10th, 2011Someone from Highland Park, IL signed.

I was not going to be able to get any days off unless I had a death certificate which I did and I only got 2 days for the death of my stillborn child. I wish I had the option of taking more time off to be able to properly grieve.REPORT COMMENTS

If only you could comprehend the loss of a child, this would be passed immediately. Fortunately, many are pleased to not have to travel this road.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband and I both were lucky enough to have employers that were compassionate and understanding about returning to work. I don't know what we would have done in a different environment. After almost 3 months I still find each day a struggle.REPORT COMMENTS

If an employer really cares about the health and welfare of his/her employees (especially if they've lost a child themselves) this request is a no brainer. I support this effort. My daughter was my receptionist at my place of business when she passed away. Returning to work was especially painful without her smiling face and her presence.REPORT COMMENTS

As a parent who lost a son almost 3 years ago, I will say that 3 days off from work is NOT enough time for a Mother or a Father after the loss of a child. It is the worst and most painful experiences anyone ever goes through. Please amend this act so that others in the future will have the time needed to recover from this life changing event.REPORT COMMENTS

My employer, at the time of our loss, allowed me to take an extended leave with pay. I could not have survived my high pressure career had my immediate boss not been so generous and understanding.REPORT COMMENTS

Fathers go through the same emotional distress and need time to grieve. 2-3 days is totally heartless and does not allow for getting through the shock, let alone initiating the grieving process. Give fathers time become whole again.REPORT COMMENTS

Those of us who have lost children, all know to well that 2-3 days of grieveing is not enough. It has been 51/2 years for the loss of my daugher, and I think I am just coming around to dealing with it. For the loss of a child is the worst loss that anyone can experience. Your life get torn apart. Hoping that this bill gets past to give the families time to get through there grieveing!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

After losing my son in May 2005 I did not want to go back to work so soon but I had to. I feel parents do need more time than 2 or 3 days, a loss of a child rips you apart and you live with that for the rest of your life but by no means 2 or 3 days is enough time, you are still in shock.REPORT COMMENTS
