I lost my first born 4 years ago at age 48, everyone says it WILL get better. It hasn't. Fortunately I was retired so I didn't have to fight the system. If you haven't gone through this, you have no clue. Something needs to be done to help working people.

Birth is .the most joyful time of a parent's life. Death of a child, is unfathomable to most and the absolute worst event of a parent's lifetime. Give us the time to deal with this pain......

As the mother of a dead child, I agree that parents need a bit of time to recover.

A very close friend of mine lost her 16 year old daughter in a car crash in 1991. This loss altered her, her life, her family in numerous and indescribable ways. Including parents whose children die to be covered by FMLA would be an incredible gift of compassion, help and support, and seems so logical I was stunned to realize it wasn't already covered. I endorse it wholeheartedly.

My husband and I lost our son 7 years ago this May. I worked at my Parish church and after 2 weeks of being off -He died immediately on a Saturday collapsing from blood clots to both lungs & funeral arrangements consumed the first week.I was asked if I was returning because I would not be paid any additinal time. I did go back , but eventually I resigned from my job a year later. My husband who was retired but working part-time in a department store took several weeks to recover enough to return to work. He lost a significant amount of weight. This Is the worst thing that can happen to a person and not something you can prepare for in advance.
