We that have paid our depth to society shouldn't have tho pay for it for the rest of our lives. My conviction is 20 years old. I've made a complete turn around in my life. I deserve a second chance.REPORT COMMENTS

A good friend of mine has a previous DUI and several years later, got drunk in a public place. He did not interact with anyone until he fell and passed out. He tried to get away from people when he woke up, but 911 had already been called. He was held until sober now he has to go to court like six months later to get his punishment! He has never had any issues with the law except these two mistakes with drinking. He has stopped drinking completely and has been going to AA meetings every week. My issue is, I was given a subpoena to testify against him, like really? Clark County of VA is treating this like a crimal case! No one was hurt, he wasn't disruptive, and now he may get jail time....of course he will lose his job, his career will be ruined and his family will be homeless. Kids won't go to college if they Lose everything and end up on the street, they will most likely end up dealing drugs to survive, How is this fair? Heck if you live in CA, you can be guilty of rape and not do a day in jail, but don't you dare get intoxicated in VA; they will hang you out to dry and your family too. People make mistakes and as long as they take steps in order not to repeat those mistakes, they deserve another chance. It's not right to destroy people's lives- being drunk in public and treating it like its some major crime. He will have this hanging over his head for the rest of his life! It's ridiculous, please pass this bill.REPORT COMMENTS

28 years ago , a car accident changed my life forever. My sentence was 6 yrs with 5 suspended and 12 months. I was active duty navy and retained until completion of my service. I received an honorable discharge but have been living with the felony stigma ever since. Basically I was giving a life sentence. I am disabled with grandchildren and not able to protect myself or those that depend on me. Please help those of us who try to help ourselves recover from being labeled forever.REPORT COMMENTS

As a convicted felon in NJ. I made a mistake at 18 that I'm still paying for till today. I can't legally own a firearm to protect my family in the case someone armed decides to take over my house. This is a sad country to be in at this day and age. One will always be guilty until proven innocent.REPORT COMMENTS

I hope that these laws change soon. Because I know what it feels like to be wrongfully convicted. When anybody harm themselves and the police tell that person to say that I harmed you or they will lock her up for obstruction and that person injured herself oen her own accord then I get arrested sent to court public defender says the prosecutor is new and since I do not have a prior record and the nudge does not want to hear a long explanation just agree with everything that is said to you and then I will get a warning and can go home OR I can sit in jail until I can bond out! Never given the option to plea not guilty, and on top of that years later the "victim" finally comes clean and admits by a written statement of recantment and confession which it was notarized at our county courthouse and then sent a copy to of that statement to the colorado springs head probation officer and his statement to me was I know you are upset but there is nothing he could do after reading the statement of confession. And now the colorado springs public defenders office don't want to look into my case. But the biggst thing is that the knife they said I used was never tested for dna samples and the reason why is because her hospital records will show that they removed a few glass shards from her elbow inner and that knife never had any dna of any kind and I mean NO DNA .So yes I really hope they do something about these courts just convicting people to make money off of restitution that never should have even went to court. 20 years of living under the poverty level had to undergo Psychiatric help and group therapy went from Zoloft to lexopril hard to take care of my family have three kids with mental development milestones and this is something noone should go through.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe if you are a rehabilitated ex-offender, you should be able to have your record expunged or removed. No one should be judged or penalized for something they did 10, 15, and 20 years ago. If no other crime has been committed in over 10 years depending on the extent on the crime, the record should be deleted or erased and given another chance. The economy in itself is already challenging, but when you add in more stipulations that restrict a person from changing their life to have a better life, it makes if very difficult, challenging and discouraging.REPORT COMMENTS
