Legalization Of Industrial Hemp

It's not about getting high, it's about getting by!

Please end the absurd federal ban and DEA eradication of Hemp, nature's miracle plant. Hemp has a great American history, having been the substance on which many of the founding documents were written on, including the Declaration of Independence. Hemp was also crucial during WWII and was used to make rope, canvas and even uniforms for the greatest generation. It contains no psychoactive properties and is never used as a recreational drug. Hemp can be used to produce clean burning fuel that would help end dependency on foreign oil and can be a substitute for petroleum based plastics that would help end plastic pollution. Hemp produces four times the amount of paper per acre than wood pulp from trees and can be recycled up to eight times, whereas paper from wood pulp can only be recycled up to three times, thereby reducing deforestation. Amongst it's thousands of uses, Hemp is an eco-friendly alternative to producing food, oils, body care products, cosmetics, consumer and industrial textiles, building materials, industrial and technical products too numerous to name here. Hemp requires no harmful chemicals such as pesticides and fungicides, grows extremely fast in any climate and also replenishes the soil with nutrients and nitrogen which helps control erosion of topsoil, a serious agricultural problem in the U.S. and globally. Hemp absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere and, importantly, leaves more trees to do the same, leaving some scientists to speculate whether, if harvested on a large enough scale, Hemp could actually begin to reverse the greenhouse effect. The legalization of Industrial Hemp would give the U.S. an opportunity to become stronger economically, strengthen national security and help heal the environment whilst living in a sustainable, responsible way that the founding fathers (many of whom grew Hemp) would be proud.
