As a GS0083, I have been injured on duty, I was dragged by a car that a shoplifter who was militsry was driving. On post or off we encounter people we deal with on duty. Yet our own Commanders will not recognize us as legitimate LEO's -

I work for the Defense Logistics Agency as a Police Officer Job series 0083. As of right now, our retirement is minimal at best. There are officers in my department that are in their late 60's with over 30 years. They are trying to stay as long as they can so they get a decent retirement. I am 57 with 13 years in. I have to pass an ANNUAL Physical Fitness to keep my job. I will be lucky to stay on the job long enough to retire. Because of this requirement, I will have effectively wasted my time at DLA and be forced to retire with less than a Social Security retirement check from the agency. Maybe you should look into getting rid of that as well. I wasn't hired with that requirement and it should never have been made a condition of my continued employment.REPORT COMMENTS

How many more VA Police Officers must die before the Politicians recognize that these are REAL Police Officers who put their lives on the line everyday to PROTECT AND SERVE, not only the Veterans, but the general public as well that enter Federal Property.REPORT COMMENTS

We as the non-qualifying LEO's, absolutely do face the same dangers as the qualifying LEO's. Furthermore, our pay is $20,000 less than that of surrounding municipal police, who also face the same dangers. We are just as qualified in our job, but make significantly less. This is unarguably the biggest factor in retention. The federal government wastes a significant amount of money by training these employees, just to have them leave and need to train more. If the pay was raised, money would not be wasted by training all of these new employees.REPORT COMMENTS

As a VA Police investigator I can say we regularly and routinely investigate crimes not only against the VA, but violent crimes against staff, patients, as well as others while on VA property. We are now tasked with armed executive protection when VA cabinet officials make official visits to VA sites. Furthermore we also often work side by side with VAOIG investigating minor white collar crime violations. Criminal cases are being presented in courts of all levels and officers are testifying as to the facts of the cases in these courts. As the largest group of uniformed federal law enforcement officers in any government agency, it's about time we receive the same recognition, pay, and benefits afforded to others who do the same job.REPORT COMMENTS
