I have been both a Civilian Police Officer for a City for 20+ years and also a former VA Police Officer; Police work is Police work. When Officers from ANY agency puts that uniform on the chance of not coming home that night is real. When people talk about hating Police or go against the Police, they don't say a specific agency, they say Police. VA Police should be have the same rights as any other Federal agency!Feb 23rd, 2016Someone from Woodbridge, VA signed.

A police officer's job is a very high risk position, which encompasses exposure to daily life threatening stress. This daily stress or threat to loss of career does not apply to regular government positions. Police deserve more protections and should be allowed to require at 20 years.REPORT COMMENTS

A sworn servant of the law who earns a badge, certified with weapons and techniques for the purpose of "Policing" in order to enforce laws, maintain good order and discipline to protect people, property and equipment within a community or facility is a LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER and/or POLICE OFFICER. This has to be fully considered and passed.REPORT COMMENTS

There shouldn't be this ability to pick and choose what departments are considered LEO's. If you attend an academy and get certified in police procedures, weapons, law, etc., and work protecting people and property you are considered a LEO. Who is to say that the US Capital police is more of a LEO agency than the US Mint? Or why are air traffic controllers who have no LEO training entitled to benefits while certain federal LEO's are not? It's absurd. Every LEO agencies employees deserve to be covered under this act. We are all police officers and have just as much training and experience as the covered agancies and officers, sometimes more. This needs to be fixed ASAP to include every LEO!REPORT COMMENTS

Anyone required to wear a bullet resistant vest and carry a gun should take priority in this country when it comes to some amount of retention. The agencies that are being crippled by the lack of coverage in LEO benefits are the same agencies that spend the most money re-training/re-employing new candidates because of this lack of retention. Instead of spending a large portion of your budget retraining these employees you should address the issue of retention by giving your employees some benefits.REPORT COMMENTS
