The ARNG needs to have a force in the air to defend our homeland. Don't weaken the force of our home defense.

I'm a 20yr Combat Veteran having worked in the Active Army and primarly (15yrs) in the National Guard. The Guard NEEDS to maintain an Army Attack helicopter platfom. How does the Guard defend its boarders and or the states from a teranical government when it doen't have assets to shoot with. Increase the Guard and Reduce the Active component. The Active component wasn't able to fight the longest war in our nations history, they repeatedly relied upon the National Guard Aviation units (and others) to conduct Combat and Combat Service Support operations in OEF and OIF. Do some research you will see the Guard has a far better reputation on flight accident rates compared to the Active component (saving tax $$$)....Why, the Guard has more experianced maintainers and aviators in addition to the fact that the reserve component brings so much more to the fight. An active unit has a pilot and or mechanic. The guard has those same indivudlas, but in addition most of them work in a different field as well. I have unit pilots that are also fire fighters, EMS pilots, commercial pilots, doctors, engineers, buisness owners, law enforcement personnel, etc. The operational capability of a Guard unit exceeds that of our active counterparts. The Guard has been in place since 1636 and involved in every war for the United States to present day.

The National Guard needs to have the Apache to maintain readiness for future wars or conflicts.
