please allow non-violent drug offenders to get on with their lives after a reasonable amount of time. in this tough job market, having a criminal record is an instant bar to employment. we need this stumbling block removed if the country is to recover.

I am signing this for a friend I made in college. She is sweet as can be and is trying to raise her children the best she can. But she can not be accepted into nursing school because of a bad choice she made. I pray this helps her. She deserves a chance to give her children the life they deserve. Good luck!

There are some drug convictions that shouldn't be felony convictions in the first place. How do we expect people to get straight & get clean if they have to wear this scarlet A for the rest of their life?

I am 30 years old when I was 18 I attempted to commit a robbery it happened in 1998 I have been off parole since 2003 and I have been honest on my applications about everything. It has been ultra rough for me to score jobs outside of temp agencies... I have went to explanation classes...I even got my Associates of Arts in Criminal Justice though taking a short break from college now...I'm about 16 or 17 months away from my Bachelors in Communication.... My point is that I am now married with children, obeying the law and no trouble besides some traffic violations i.e. speeding...no dui or anything like that... I'm just saying that people deserve second chances to be able to move forward in life, especially after they have been to prison over their actions and they are making progress in society and not commmitting crime etc. Peace to you all...

Regardless of anyone's personal opinions the bottom line is that this will save taxpayer money, and starting at a time when we need that the most - now. Please support this effort.

It is a sad fact that we live in a country that forces oppression.... "legally". Our past should not determine the goals and dreams that we have for our future. America is suppose to be a land of dreams and opportunities but instead it is a country that uses our past to condemn us. As a felon, I have made mistakes but I have also lear...ned from them and went on with life to become a productive member of society. I have alot of knowledge acquired throughout the years by extensive continued education. It may never be put to use in a way that could benefit society because a piece a paper from twelve years ago has the statement "convicted felon" attached to my name. The dollar bill is inscribed "In God We Trust"..... if that is so why do we, as a nation, not follow the principles set by Him. It is wrote that if we repent from our sins and ask God for forgiveness, He will cast them as far as the East is from the West. That translates to them being sent two seperate ways, never to come back. Now with that being said, if it was truely God that we trust, why do we as a nation, quit condemning people to crimes of the past. As we age... no matter what our age... life is still a learning process. So, if you feel that people shoild b...e given a second chance, please sign the petition that would allow second chances to those who deserveit.

Please pass this most worthy bill. As a law student, business owner, mother and wife I have seen how backwards our legal system can be. There is a reason we have the highest incarceration rate and prison return rate. Our system does nothing but further inhibit former inmates from succeeding legitimately. A chance for gainful employement can make a huge difference. In addition, there are enough safeguards on the restrictions of who qualify that even the most conservative person can see that this bill is a win-win for all Americans.
