I was convicted in 2006, I have served my time, and have made a complete turn around. I've moved away from my home town, to seek an education in computer science. I will do anything to have a prospering future. I feel lost, if that is taken away. I need this bill more then anything. Everyone deserves a second chance.

The foundation of our country rests on the very idea of breaking away from a bad situation that no longer defines you as a person and starting your life anew. It is only fitting that our current legislation should reflect this idea as well. I fully support this act and hope that Washington gives it a valid consideration.

Even if the legislation is more strict. Please give an option to the many of us that are in a bad spot. I made a single mistake 20 years ago. No Jail, Non Violent, a single years probation. Nothing prior and nothing since. Please give me an option to remove this life sentence that was put upon me.

I was convicted of a non-violent crime approx. 7 years ago. It was an "attempted burglary of a storehouse." I completed all necessary programs, paid court fines, even have a letter of restoration of rights from the judge. He even made it clear to me that if it was in his power to expunge my record - he certainly would. Now I am about to graduate community college and go into nursing school but I will always have this public record hanging over me and its simply not fair. I am a law abiding citizen and have absolutely no intention of breaking any laws ever again. I just want a normal life and will do anything to acheive that. So please support this bill as this is the only thing preventing me from becoming a highly productive member of society.

Earlier this year I was charged with forgery. I made a very bad recession and take full responsibility for what i've done.I have let many people down who trusted me. At this point my attorney says I will not have to serve any jail time and most likely 10 years probation and restatution which could be a lot worse. However, I have not even been convicted yet and can not find a job. As far as most employers are concerned my crime is a feloney and therefore the same as if I had committed a violent act. Not to mention my attorney told me if I libb i in a different county there would be a good chance the charges would be lowered to a lesser charge. But the DA is concerned about votes from business owners. What I've done is wrong and I will have to live with the shame and guilt all my life but I am also being convicted to a life sentence without parole!

my wrongful conviction has ruined my good name and if you allow me to get it expunged I can live a better more productive life and help make our Country stronger. Ted Kenedy had a criminal record for leaving the scene of an accident and served many years after helping Americans. Why cant I have the same breaks ? Im not rich, but I am American, so please pass HR 5492 so I can make something of myself before I get too old, pass it now, I've waited for years and years already !

Please pay some attention to the corruption in the legal system. Please honor what was set in place by our founding fathers to protect our rights. When a person pays their debt to society they should be free of any residue when there was NO VIOLENCE. Please support this, this is the right thing to do.

I can assure you, there are bigger offenders walking the halls in congress than many of these individuals whom had "PAID" the ultimate price to society for their mistake. This issue needs to be addressed immediately!

If I pay taxes I should be able to vote,I feel I have a right to suggest how my hard earned money is spent.I am a living soul and feel I should protect my well being by what ever means necessary. What am I to do if my home is invaded by armed suspects, fend them off with a spatula or fly swatter. Some of us have families to protect. The most important thing in life is to stay alive and I won't have law makers hinder my ability for survival.

Since when not able to get or find employment a crime? Far to men and women are being stamp with felony 4-5 base on child support. Now don't get me wrong we should do all we can to raise our children. But with the everyday stress of going to jail as a felony for a lack money, Some way this permanent punishment is unfair and unconstitutional.

I support H.R. 5492: Fresh Start Act of 2010 because I feel that one time offenders should not have to pay for their past mistakes for the remainder of their lives. This bill ONLY has an affect on one time offenders and clearly states that if a second offense takes place the first offense is made public again. To me this is an incentive to do the right things in life as many one time offenders are today.

I was a police officer for 6 years. I was a good officer. I served my city well. In 2006 a F.B.I. informant approached me and tried to sale me a stolen flat sceen tv that was suppose to be from best buy. I was tempted to buy it but I didn't. I came to my sences and realized my position and i got out of it. Before I even became a officer I had never involved my self with any thing like that. As a police officer you come into alot of temptations. You really have to be head strong to do right and not to give in to temptation. After I told the guy I didnt want to buy the tv I never heard from him again . In 2008 I was approached by the F.B.I and was asked several questions . They never mentioned the guy or the tv or the time frame . They asked when I was at a particular location did someone try to sale me some stolen merchandise . Again they never mentioned the guy or the tv or the time frame . I had just come from this particular location 3 days prior to being questioning. They never even ask me to think back two years . They knew what they were doing. Im thinking they were just asking random people questions . Sense i thought they were talking about 3 days ago i said no. They left but returned and said i lied to them."2001" MAKING A FALSE STATEMENT. When they returned they then started to ask questions about the guy, the tv, and that this happened 2 years ago. Even then i could barley remember. When i did I told them i didnt buy any thing and the only reason i didnt mention that is because it happen 2 years ago and i really didnt remember . They basically told me to save it I straight up lied to them. There was nothing to lie about. The only thing i may have done wrong was not arrest the guy. The only consequence that would have come out of that probably would have been a suspension if that .I had not broken any laws until I was tricked in to that lie . The next thing I knew I was indicted. Only reason I pleaded guilty is because there was no way i was going to get a fair trail, once the jury saw that I was a police officer i was going to be marked guilty weather i was innocent or not. I have never had any suspicion that I was a corrupt officer. The only complaint that I think I may have had was that this woman said I wrote her a seat belt ticket to days in a row. You will not find not one person that is going to tell you that I was a bad cop for the exception of the ones who helped convict me.You can even asked the ones i took to jail. This is the GOD truth .My punishment was a 1100 dollar fine and a felony on my record. In other words I am cast out of society. So here I am a former good police officer and now a convicted felon. I cant find a decent job or come any were close to one . Im glad I dont have a family to take care of. All my dreams and goals taken from me. Still to this day that has only ben the time I have been in troulble with the law. So tell me how long should I pay for this?

I have a few friends that have made mistakes when they were younger, that have gotten their lives together and been contributing members of society for years. I believe that everyone deserves a second chance, mistakes made years ago should not follow a person that has learned from their mistakes and wish to now live by the law.
