I was sentenced to a term of 36 months, I did 28 of the 36. While in prison I managed to get my GED and also my Adult High School Diploma, didn't know I could attain both but I did so. I believe I proved to be a model prisoner. Always held a job, and no disciplinary actions. While doing my time, I came across our Constitution and Bill of Rights. When released into society I chose to further my education with vocational training, and also excercise our Constitutional Rights. Well in doing so, I was a felon excercizing our 2nd Amendment, something the feds disapprove of. "Illegal federal law" does not trump the the Constitution. My interpretation of our rights lead me to believe I have a right to keep and bear arms. I was eventually found to be in possession of our 2nd Amendment and sent to U.S Prison for 51 months. I feel It is a violation of my right for the Bill of rights "article v" states, "The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate". This process never took place,therefore felon in pssession is an illegal law and many Americans are wrongfully imprisoned. I cont. to excercise our rights, I am a free man and will live as one.REPORT COMMENTS

The expected result of jail time is to enable the individual to understand that their action(s) were not acceptable to society. First time non-violant crimes should not follow those individuals on through life. They have repaid society for their mistake and have made amends to those whom they offended. As a result of my felony convictions, my wife and our soon-expected baby are caught in the middle of the housing discrimination of ex-convicts, who are not covered under the Fair Housing Act. I feel that non-violent crimes, whether a federal felony or otherwise, should not carry into the post-incarceration period of the ex-offenders life. I also feel that the families of ex-offenders should not be discriminated against due to actions they had no control over, nor responsibility for.REPORT COMMENTS
