I am an RN who has contributed to social security for 37 years. I never made more than 50,000 a year and I am still working and contributing to SS on a very low yearly income. My husband worked as a civil service employee for almost 35 years and receives a government pension. If I die before age 62, he does not receive any of the survivor's benefits that I worked so hard as a nurse to earn. Who should get MY money if I die- my husband of 37 years! Where does MY money go if I die? It should go to my husband and no one else! This law is unfair and steals my money if I die before I am eligible to receive any of MY SS benefits. Lawmakers, I will be voting for those who can help repeal this law. Congressmen of Alabama, please help repeal this law; in the North Alabama we have many government employees who deserve their survivor's benefits. I EARNED THIS MONEY DOING A VERY DIFFICULT JOB FOR VERY LOW PAY!

Repeal WEP/GPO, we the people should get our full benefit that we paid for. It is not a windfall, we paid into it, we deserve our full benefit.

Please repeal this bill. It is totally unfair when someone works for over 30 years, pays into SS and dies before retiring and their spouse cannot receive his benefits because she worked in a government job. Where does his money go? It is total unfair that the spouse is not entitled to receive this benefit.

Govt Pension Offset penalizes employees who have served the public for the majority of their working career and also worked in the private sector for a minimum of 10 years. When you pay into two funds you should receive the same consideration of benefits, not penalized. I want my money I paid into SSN, because of the WEP deduction, I find it hard to support myself!1

Who ever designed this bill in the first place was an idiot, makes no sense. I started collecting my benefit at the age of 66 while I was still working. Got my whole benefit of $944.00 a month. As soon as I retired it dropped to $377 a month because of the WEP and the $134.00 I have to pay for medicare part B. The $134. I don't mind gotta have health insurance. So yes we need Bill H.R 1795 to repeal these unconstitutional eliminations.

You had to pay a percentage of your wages under each plan and they were not prorated so your benefit should not be prorated.

I have worked all my life and completed by 40 quarters for Social Security. I know work in a school district and am eligible to retire. I continue to work because of the WEP and GPO. I just want what I should be eligible to receive.

H.R. 1795 is very unfair to workers who have earned their 40 quarters as well as the impact on survivor to a spouse that has passed away. My husband passed away in 2015 and along with his loss also went his social security which was $1225 per month and has put me in a financial dilemia. President Trump has to correct this as it impacts so many people. I was told that the reason that this bill was put into effect was to help thoughs who needed it more by a Social Security Spokesperson. I and my husband worked very hard for what we had and I am very disappointed that the system thinks the people who worked so hard should take care of illegal immigrants as they are entitled to everything that we the people of the United States are not. This must be changed. Another item that must be addressed is that we the people should be able to have the same health care as the House and the Senate. They are not special and should have to have the same crappy insurance we have.

I'm confused - Federal Postal Employees can receive SSA , their Federal Pension and their Thrift Savings monies, but State and local workers (teachers included) who have paid into SSA and have 40 qtrs will be subjected to the WEP, The PLOP or other offset. I'm not understanding the difference in "Government affiliation". If it's good for the goose it should be good for the gander!

I am a retired Detroit Police Officer who has proudly served to protect the citizens of this City, who has been wounded in street battles serving for the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan School Board in Detroit for a combined service of over thirty years. My income was supplemented throughout my career with secondary jobs that I paid into Social Security and have now become eligible with 40 Quarters to collect Social Security Benefits, was unaware of the WEP. However, since the offset has reduced my Social Security Benefits, we are also suffering with the loss of our medical insurance due to the bankruptcy of Detroit, plus a Michigan State Tax was added into our pension has caused our income to fall to the poverty level with the higher cost of living that we are now experiencing. The insurance coverage that we can afford is not affordable and is paid out of our pension check because we are now on a fixed income was not agreed upon before separation from the Police Department. Many of us experience higher co pays, out of pocket expenses and many of our prescribed prescriptions that are written as (DAW) are not covered by insurance because of the specialty insurance coverage that we lost was designed to cover the higher cost medications for the type of injuries we received in our line of work. As we have gotten older, so has our injuries, areas of pain that has stricken our bodies we now are suffering with, as illness prevents many of us from returning back to work, most of us who are now in our late sixties and seventies. I hope with faith and pray that this H.R. Bill 1795 is passed in legislature because it is unfair for all of the persons who have served in the capacity of helping other people throughout their career who have paid into the system, deserve the right to collect what is due us. Shame on the Political Politics if this bill does not pass. Thank you to the Co-sponsors Representatives who have initiated this Bill. Thank you to all that have served and sacrificed themselves in their chosen professions to help make this world a better place. God Bless You All, and to our Teachers too, because without them how do you think we got to where we are.

My retirement is affected by both WEP and GPO! I am a military veteran and a widow. I served 9 years in the United States Air Force (1976-1985) and upon separation (decorated, honorable discharge) from the armed forces, I went into the teaching profession. I served our nations' children as a public school educator for 25 years, and have dedicated my life to the service of others. I am fully vested in the Social Security system, having paid my 40 quarters, yet, due to my eligibility to receive a pension from my teaching career, I am penalized by WEP. I am also a widow, having lost my husband six years ago to cancer. My husband was of Social Security retirement age, and was receiving benefits, however, the Government Pension Offset (GPO) rules make me ineligible for Survivor Benefits otherwise provided to individuals. Please eliminate these unfair and harmful rules which only serve to penalize hard-working individuals who have dedicated their lives to public service! WEP and GPO are VERY unfair!!

I am currently 66 years old and started paying Social Security taxes when I was 16. I did work part time while raising my two daughters. When I decided to return to the workforce full time I followed my life long dream of being a teacher. During the 10 years that I paid into the teacher retirement system, I also paid into Social Security because of part time jobs. Because of becoming a teacher my retirement check based on my late husband's Social Security is reduced by $900 a month. This is because I did not have 30 years of "substantial earnings" of paying into SS. It does not matter that I paid SS on wages over $384,000 and that many of my years were over "substantial earnings". It does not matter that I am collecting on my late self-employed husband's benefit which was based on earnings until he died at age 52. Ads are on TV to become a teacher and to make a positive impact on a child's life. Never did I hear an ad that said becoming a teacher as a change of careers would decrease or in most cases wipe out the SS benefit you earned.

I had earned the require 40 quarters to quality for Social Security before I became a government employee. Some of those credits were earned while serving on the battlefield in Vietnam not once but twice. I worked for the federal government for a combined total of 38 years. At age 62, I applied for my social security and was told that my social security benefits would be cut by 3/4 because I retired from the government and receive a government pension.

I am 70 years old. I currently receive Social Security and am unable to live on that amount. I, therefore, have another job- for a city- that does not participate in Social Security If and when I (if ever I live to ) retire I will be hit by WEP. The pension I might receive from the government job will reduce what little I get from Social Security-and I still will not be able to survive on that amount. I have no children or other support systems to substitute for the loss of income I will be faced with. I worked for Social Security and should receive it I am working for my government pension and shoudl receive it as well Each was a different time in my life I accepted my government job after being layed off from a former industry so there was no choice as to whether I should have taken the new job or not. Eat and pay bills or not eat and pay no bills. Both pensions were earned and I feel I deserve both HR 1795 will not solve my income problems but at least it will allow me to receive what I have legally, lawfully and earned

Good God, I hope this happens! Worked for 16 years in Fed (1983-1999), and was a very hard worker. Afterward, volunteered for US Peace Corps, became crippled and was medically separated (2000) from Peace Corps. Have been on again/off again 'TEMPORARY' Disability DOL OWCP roles (and now arbitralily "off" for the third time) (2000-2016). Reaching 62 --a year an half ago- OWCP threw me off again because I was eligible to receive a small non-disability deferred CSRS federal pension. I needed to supplement that small federal pension with my eligible Social Secuity (about $600/month)...but after applying for that Soc Sec. I was told my Soc Sec would be cut by about two-thirds because I also had that small deferred federal pension. Please, please pass this, for this crippled 63-year old military veteran, past public servant, who got badly injured while Volunteering for the US Peace Corps (2000-2001) at 48-49 years old. Thanks

I am a retired teacher. In 2004 I retired with a disability. Since I retired with a disability I receive a teachers pension for ( gross amount $1200. ) net $867. a month. Since I also qualified for social security on my own income because partially I worked and contributed to social security my SS was reduced to 468. (half of what I had contributed) because of the WEP rule. I also qualify for the spousal social security benefit and could receive about $618. under my husband social security because the GPO rule was not applicable on the year that I retired. I am currently appealing because I know I do qualify for the spousal benefit. The GPO AND THE WEP are very unfair rules. In my case, I had a small pension through Teachers retirement and also worked in other jobs and paid social security so fairly I am entitled to receive some social security and as a wife I am also partially entitled to my husband social security but due to GPO rule the rip off is big and it applies only to teachers, police, firefighters, postal workers, civil servants and state nurses. These two provisions need to be repealed. In my case adding up my social security $468.+$867.=$1335. a month is not enough to survive right now in my older years. The WEP and the GPO need to be repealed!

When will someone take action on righting an injustice, especially to our elderly and public servants who dedicated their lives to our communities. We are not asking for something we are not entitled to but only what we had earned. If the public pension in anyway increased ones SSA benefits I could see a reduction but that is not the case.

The GPO and WEP are discriminatory toward public servants. Further, they discriminate by favoring the lifetime unemployed over the employed, specifically under circumstances where a spouse who has never paid into Social Security receives spousal SS benefits while a spouse who has paid into either TRS alone, or even TRS and SS, receives none.

This bill is so unfair. My husband died of cancer two years ago and I can't draw widows benefits because I am a teacher. I would like to know where all the money that was taken out of his check has gone. I have had to sell the farm that my husband and I bought together, plus I will have to either work more years or take on a second job to pay for all the medical bills during his illness. If I could draw benefits I could pay the bills off and enjoy a small portion of my life.

People like myself who made a career out of federal service are penalized because we worked for the government, This is very unfair. Please support repeal of these unfair laws.
