This legislation IMHO is absolutely vital. In post 9/11 American, there is no way we can properly police military installations, government property and housing areas without the ability to arrest and charge at the local level. The system used currently in simply untenable. The commanding officers authority must be supplemented by the ability to of the officer to arrest and charge...REPORT COMMENTS

As a DoD component Police Officer, I believe that for far to long we have been expected to perform all the duties of any federal, state, or municipal police department, and assume all of the risks and hazards inherent in that role without being empowered to do so. We have been fighting a fight with one hand tied behind our back. This travesty was somewhat curtailed with the passing of the law-enforcement safety act, but still affects the public and the victims who we serve. I fully support this bill to correct this injustice and give all police officers the authority to do our jobs right, and protect the people whom we swore to protect.REPORT COMMENTS
