I live in Congressman Cohen's district and have a non-violent felony on my record. As a person that understands, first hand, the difficulty of having this issue, its frustrating and sad that there has not been a path that allows people to TRULY move forward in their lives. Something must be done now!

My felony has affected every single aspect of my life. From gaining acceptance to an educational institution, to finding a job. It has hindered me in every way. It has crushed all of my dreams. It is now affecting my relationship with the girl i want to marry and start a family with. She thinks I will be unable to provide a healthy and secure future for us and our children. Why is my lovely relationship being jeopardized because of my record? Please pass this bill and give me everything ive lost, because i have paid the price for it. Losing my potential family is the ultimate injustice. Please, everyone support this bill for me, for you, for us, and for our futures.

The public consensus is that everyone that committed a crime should be punished for life, however, those who are first time, non-violent offenders should be given a second chance. They have a better chance a not reoffending and recidivism gets reduced. Second chances mean an opportunity to lead productive lives.

please consider this bill everyone, this fixes a huge flaw in the system for people who really change and want to become productive citizens again. We are Americans not communists! Remember people have to pay their debt to society before they are considered an exspungment and even then they may not get it the first time they file.

I have a friend that made a mistake when she was 17. She was convicted as an adult for a non-violent crime. She is now 31 and still cannot get decent housing and fears everytime she has to complete a form.

Mr. President and mebers of Congress, I am not actually a felon myself but I know many individuals who have felony charges that are interfering with them being productive american citizens.People do make mistakes and as long as they have not been convicted for felony acts of violence they should be given the chance to thrive in our society. Haven't they already paid their debt to society by being incarcerated, how can we rehabilitate these individuals if we make it so difficult for them to become productive. This is why the prison becomes a revolving door. It is so difficult for them to find steady employment or be eligible for the same jobs as others so they resort back to their past criminal ways. Hopefully one day soon we can put an end to all this and give people a chance to prove that they have changed.

Allow citizens to be productive, gainfully employed, and freed from the stigma of a non-violent criminal record. It will help the local and national communities to have productive citizens working, paying taxes, and spending money in the economy. Do not punish people with life sentences of being branded felons for past, non-violent mistakes.

This bill would not have been necessary fifty years ago. Now with internet background searches, anyone can see a citizens personal history. It is now impossible to move on and create a new life . We should burden every offender with a life sentence. Please pass this bill.

More than 16 years ago, I had a criminal complaint filed against me dismissed by the Court for lack of probable cause to believe that an offense had been committed or that I committed it. I attempted unsuccessful to have the arrested expunged and the fact of that unlawful arrest remains on my record and there is no other avenue available for seeking redress to have the unlawful arrest expunged from my record.

25% of all Americans have some type of criminal record. The United States holds 5% of the worlds population. yet jails 25% of all the worlds prisoners. If something is not done soon Americans with records will outnumber those that don't. Laws & Chains will not contain this angry group.
