I have always felt that certain groups in prison, should be sent to war. If they want to play with guns, and lives let them stand up for America instead of killing each other in America. Most think they are big and bad already let them prove it.

I'm an ex felon and i've been trying to join the army for the last two years.I've also jumped through a bunch of hoops doing whatever recruiter's asked me to do to qualify for enlistment.I'm still a no go,I don't have any violent, sexual or gun charges and no drug possession of sales either.I'm starting to feel like an illegal alien, even though i heard they were joining the army a couple years ago.Hopefully with enough petitions congress will give us a little leverage but you know peop[le will still criticize. Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do. -Benjamin Franklin

With the over 1.5 million people in prisons I feel the best way to replenish our ranks is to look to our damned. Give them the option of serving in the military. If the run off and go AWOL of cares? One less problem on our soils.

If is not for murder, rape, domestic violence, child or elderly abuse; I think you give a person a second chance. I believe drug possession with intent to sell should be allowed to join if they have been able to show a history of law abiding behavior for a extended period ( greater than 5 years) of time.

I think if they have shown they truly changed they should be allowed to join. In a sense it could be a way to make up for what they've done in the past.

Basically I see it this way; if a person is non violent and has not commited a crime in a long while or has changed their life why should said person not be allowed to fight for his or her country? As a matter of fact, the armed services should be a sentencing option for people who would be made worse by going to prison. Taxpayer money is spent to house and feed people sent to prison for no good reason. I think it would be smarter and better use of money to pad our military by giving people who had one moment of indescression the military as an alternative to being thrown in with the worse sort of person. It actually destroys more young people than it "rehabilitates". Our prison system should be Reserved for the worst lot. Save a young persons life rather than destroy it. Everyone's been young and dumb.

I believe that if someone has done their time in addition to proving to the community and self that they have made a change for the better, they should be allowed into the military. We have all made mistakes in our lives, some worst than others, but should a cloud hang over your head for the rest of your life? Really!!! I was convicted of a crime in 2003, since my release I have graduated from college and attempting another degree in Project Management. Here it is 2010, still no job, and the military will not except me. Seriously, I pray everyday for a chance, a chance to provide for my son, be a productive citizen, and prove to my community that change is indeed possible. I speak for the thousands of people who have been convicted of a crime who are crying out for the same justice I cry for.

I feel as if there is no hope in this country. The land of oppertunity is now the land of the oppressed. Only in governmentis there a chance of forward or backwards. I understand its the law to loose your rights if convicted of a felony but you can get certain right back. Well, if you can do that why can't you join a branch of the military without being looked down upon. To be born in the USA and make a mistake in your life is scary. The way i feel about this country i cant express it so...............
