I got just far enough in Phoenix University to realize something wasn't right. I didn't go past my first set of classes but it still stuck me with some minor debt that I haven't paid on principle. This non-accredited school took away my drive to get a degree, selling me a run around instead. -

I went to this school in Oct. of 2008 graduating in August of 2010. In February of 2011 I found out because of my disability, I qualified for help paying for school. However, UOP never told me they had a program to help. When I jumped them about it, it was shrugged off. They still could never tell me why my sister got financial aide using the same income on the FAFSA and I didn't get anything.REPORT COMMENTS

I was told I needed to borrow the full amount offered by lenders. I nearly 40,000 in loans for an associates degree that I will never be able to use. This school has prevented me from having a life. I am in serious debt with loans from this school. I owe over $80,000 due to UOP's counselors, even though they stated that I wouldn't have to pay anything over $30,000 for a 4 year Bachelor's Degree that I was totally be able to be accredited and use in my state, after everything was said and done. I have been unable to pay on that debt, leaving my credit score hurting. I can not use this degree in any manner and have been working the same field I've been in for years after I finished the degree. Needless to say, as with other individuals, I am stuck with a meaningless paper that costs $80,000 to do nothing with.REPORT COMMENTS

When I started was told 4 yrs would cost about $24000 by a counselor. Now here I am $71000 in debt and unable to lower my payments to an affordable amount. I have now exhausted all of my options and am Having to cut back in all possible ways as well as possibly having to move in order to not default on my loan. This degree has done nothing but put me in debt for the rest of my life. Something needs to be done, I think theyve made more than enough profit considering its an online school and it costs hat much!REPORT COMMENTS

When first talking to a "counselor" they had assured me it would be only four years and that it would only cost $24,000, but then when reading more, I understood that it would not cover the requirements of a teaching degree and it would not help me land a job. But going through a year of this school, I failed so many classes because I was working double shifts everyday just to make enough to pay my school loans. After I told them I was done with there school, I came to find out that I had $18,000 in school debt. I also learned that they not only charged a $30 loan fee, but that they trick you into thinking that it is covered by financial aid, when it isn't. I do agree that the loans do need to forgiven since if this isn't accredited then it should be shut down. Funny that if you sell fraudulent luxury item, aka a "Louis Vuitton" bag that you could be fined and imprisoned, but "colleges" like UOP get away from taking money from people or are just trying to make an honest living.REPORT COMMENTS

Many years ago I was a single mother with two very young children, trying to make a better life for my little family. It was a time that I was told by the financial department single mothers to go to school for free. Not knowing anything different, I signed up and I was very proud of myself for the grades that I was giving. Here’s where the story takes a turn. I had a final project due and at the time it was daylight savings time. I got my Project completed and turned it in. I had stayed up all night working on it to make sure I got it turned in on time. The grades came in and I found out that I had failed the class. I asked and it was due to the fact that it was turned in late. I told them when I turned it it it shows that I turned it in on time. I am from Missouri in all honesty I had no idea that Arizona did not recognize daylight savings time. The financially department told me that I should have paid attention to the university’s webpage clock. I never once looked at that clock, nor did I ever thank you. We have cell phones, watches ,VCRs microwaves you name it there is it o’clock especially on the laptop we do our work on. So to this day I have still been trying to battle this debt that they say I old them even though from their own employees I was told was free and the fact that they still failed me over something so completely ridiculous. I’m very thankful I didn’t finish anything with them. Since then I have remarried I am now in military spouse and just completed my associates in through Kaplan university , Graduating with a 4.0. This is not the first time I have heard of the University of Phoenix using people and being shady.REPORT COMMENTS
