Equality in National Service Compensation

Reduce Congressional Salaries and Benefits to equal that of Military Service Members

Whereas:

Volunteer members of the Uniformed Services of the United States of America are marginally compensated for their dedication to the United States Constitution with an average rate for an enlisted member of approximately $23,000/year at their 4 year service mark and receive government health care through military treatment facilities (MTF's) and Veteran's Association (VA) Hospitals

Whereas:

Volunteer Congressional members are excessively compensated for their service to the United States of a rate of $174,000/year beginning at day (1) of service and receive health care via semi-private 'cadillac' health insurance plans allowing them to seek treatment at virtually any medical facility

Whereas:

Uniformed service members of the USA are frequently called upon to give their lives for defense of the United States of America and the Constitutional Rights guaranteed in the USA; are called upon to work long hours, days, months, and even years in hostile territories; are routinely asked to face sub-standard living conditions while in the execution of their duties; are required to work through any and all federal, state, local, and/or religious holidays

Whereas:

Congressional members are rarely (if ever) called upon to sacrifice their lives for the United States of America; are rarely (if ever) called upon to work more than 120 days/year and rarely (if ever) in a physically hostile environment; are accommodated with higher-than-average living conditions; are given time off for any and all federal, state, local and/or religious holidays

Therefore:

We, the undersigned, call upon all members of the United States Congress to immediately, and without exception, legislate the restructuring of all Government related means of compensation (pay, health care, housing benefits, etc) provided to all members of the United States Congress into a format ensuring that no member of the United States Congress shall receive, in any form (pay, health care, housing benefits, etc.,) compensation for their service to the United States Government that would exceed the equivalent amount received by any average member of the Uniformed Services of the United States of America with the equivalent amount of time in service of the United States of America (e.g. a (1) year Congressional Member's Compensation shall be equal to the compensation received by the average Uniformed Service Member at the Uniformed Service Member's (1) year point in time of service to the United States of America)
