I am still reeling over Laredo, Texas shelters and others who are killing dogs and cats with a razor through their chest into their heart and twisting it!!!!!! There are laws/codes https://www.avma.org/Advocacy/StateAndLocal/Documents/Euthanasia_Laws.pdf listed of what is approved in Texas and all states and any shelter using this barbaric method is violating the law! Texas shelters can ONLY use sodium pentobarbital (not heartstick) according to this document. This is what our vets use. So...any shelter doing this should be shut down! I only know about the Laredo facility that killed the young, friendly black lab named April today (7/3/17) using this barbaric way to torture this innocent female lab and others before and after her. I am outraged! It's bad enough they are euthanizing but no way should this be allowed in the USA.

This is barbaric! I just found out that this practice is being used on cats and kittens in Gwinnett County, Georgia. What needs to be done to have this stopped immediately? To do this to an animal is unconscionable! To have this practice condoned by the United States Department of Agriculture is a national disgrace! If the public knew about this practice, there would be more disgusted taxpayers writing in. I hope to let as many people know about this as possible!

No Kill Advocacy Reformers launched a campaign over 150 years ago to start the first Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. This lead to the launch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. These interest type groups have been around a long time, in many forms, and with many faces. These two groups are not able to speak and advocate for themselves to guarantee humane treatment for their welfare, as they represent the most vulnerable groups in society. The ideas behind these groups are to protect the defenseless, establish justice, foster compassion, to ensure responsible stewardship and to build a more humane society. Thus far, the children have far more protection than the animals. The interest group I have selected is the No Kill Advocacy Center. Across the United States there is the belief that animal shelters, the Humane Society of America (HSUS), the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) are there to protect animals and help them find forever homes. They show advertisements that tug at your heartstrings and get you to open your pocketbook. Most of these shelters and groups have been and remain unsupervised and unregulated. Some have a 99% Kill rate of animals taken in and only save 1%, which means out of 100 animals, only 1 is saved, 99 are killed. More money being paid isn?t helping to save these lives. In some shelters the animals are packed into a gas chamber to fight to the death as they are suffocated by the gas. If any survive, they are put back into the chamber to be gassed again with more animals. Some are shot, starved without food or water, and neglected. Rescue and non-profit groups are turned away from rescuing and find that some shelters are vindictive enough to immediately kill the animal the groups were trying to rescue. The goals of the No Kill Community for there to be an Animal Rescue Act which would allow for reform and accountability laws nationwide. Shelters and these large groups portray themselves as being animal advocates, yet are shown to be kill shelters. Part of this reform is for the shelters and groups to collaborate with rescue and non-profit rescues, which in turn helps to keep the number of animals in shelters down helping offset the expenses of maintaining the animals, which in turn saves the taxpayers money and gains the support of the community. People want to help save lives, not take lives. Accountability is another goal. Shelters and those groups don?t have to report numbers or be accountable in the way a rescue organization is. Because rescue access laws require rescue organizations to be incorporated as non-profit public benefit corporations under Internal Revenue Code Section 501?(3), rescue access laws would also improve oversight of groups performing rescues. They would be required to file articles of incorporation, have a board of Trustees and subject themselves to both state and federal ma
