End the Dangerous Practice of Daylight Savings Time

Messages Sent So Far
Daylight savings time needlessly causes death and destruction of property. It's an antiquated practice that harms people. Arizona, Hawaii, and the overseas territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands already do not participate in this practice.

Increased daylight comes at the sacrifice of early morning light to which studies have linked increased school bus accidents, car accidents, deaths and property destruction. Additional studies show that daylight savings time correlates with an increase in heart attacks, strokes, sleep problems, lack of concentration and lower overall well being, the risks of which decrease with the return to standard time in the fall.

The impact is economic also. One 2013 study shows that the calculated sum of the costs of all of the health and lost productivity has up to a $434 million impact on the US.

While the US has purported that daylight savings time creates savings in fuel consumption, regional studies show no impact or an increase in energy consumption, possibly due to an increased demand for air conditioning.

If the government is doing something that senselessly causes the death of its own citizens and has no discernible benefit, shouldn't it immediately stop doing that thing? Here is a study posted on the government's own website: There are many more.

Please stop the senselessness and put an end to daylight savings time.
